The 2019 AFL home and away season is fast approaching and it shapes as a fascinating one with a host of clubs out to challenge last year's premiers, West Coast.

We have gazed into the crystal ball and come up with four best bets for 2019.

Adelaide Crows To Make the Top 8
Not much went right for Adelaide last year, from the moment they stepped out on their now infamous pre-season camp to the latter stages of 2018 when they were unable to overcome a slow start. But with a number of key players back in the fold after injuries, the Crows shape as the big improvers. A fit set of Crouch brothers as well as Rory Sloane should see them improve on their total of 12 wins last season. Brodie Smith is another that comes back from injury and while the departure of Mitch McGovern removes some forward depth, their stars inside 50m should be suited by the rule changes this season. The $1.50 is better than bank interest and a crack at the top 4 betting might even be the go.

Hawthorn To Make the Top 8
Most experts have written Hawthorn off after the Brownlow Medalist, Tom Mitchell, broke his leg in a recent training mishap. But the Hawks top four finish last season wasn't just because of Mitchell. Alistair Clarkson's men still have a host of experienced players with some nice youth coming along, including James Sicily and Jaegar O'Meara. Chad Wingard is more than a handy recruit and if Tom Scully can return ahead of schedule, the former Giant can add some much needed outside run. The Hawks have missed finals just once in the last 10 years and will be there again in 2019.

Collingwood To Make The Top 4
The Magpies are the team to beat after overcoming a stack of injuries to almost win the flag last year. Their host of midfield stars should enable them to overcome what is a tough draw. Dayne Beams is back and he joins the likes of Pendlebury, Siddebottom and Treloar in the middle. A fit and firing Darcy Moore and Jamie Elliot will further enhance their already strong depth and the pain of just missing out last year may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the side that can take the next step this season.

Essendon - To Miss the Top 8
The Bombers have been hyped up big time in the off-season but I am not convinced. Dylan Shiel adds grunt to their midfield but they were largely underwhelming in 2018, particularly early when the season was on the line before picking up some junk time wins later in the year. They come in with some sketchy pre-season form and have work to do to get past a host of sides in the what will be a bottleneck for sides from 6th to 12th.
