AFL Trades Wrap - All the ins and outs from the trade period

How did your club fare at the trade period and how are they positioned for the upcoming draft?

The 2019 AFL trade period is done and dusted and in total there were 44 deals that saw 45 players switch clubs.

Five of the 44 deals saw free agents make the move, including the former Gold Coast Sun, Tom Lynch, who joins Richmond, while the West Coast Eagles premiership ruckman, Scott Lycett, headed to Port.

A number of deals occurred in the final frantic hours before the deadline on Wednesday October 17, including the one that saw Dylan Shiel head to Essendon for two first round picks, while the 2010 Collingwood premiership player, heads back to the Magpies after a stint at Brisbane.

Beams and Shiel landed at their new homes in the dying minutes before the cut-off. One player that was unable to head to his preferred destination was Geelong's Tim Kelly.

The skilful West Australian had indicated that he wanted to return to his native state and play for West Coast. But the Eagles and the Cats could not strike a deal and he will remain in Victoria for another year to serve out his contract with Geelong.

Other big names to transfer were Melbourne's Jesse Hogan to Fremantle and Fremantles Lachie Neale to Brisbane.

Hawthorn were in the thick of the action, landing Chad Wingard and Tom Scully as well as the Gold Coast youngster, Jack Scrimshaw. However, the Hawks lost the highly promising Ryan Burton and the two time premiership player, Taylor Duryea.

Carlton were regarded as one of the big winners of the trade period, scoring Mitch McGovern, Will Setterfield, Alex Fasolo and Nic Newman, while managing to hold on to their No.1 selection at the upcoming national draft.

There were a stack of draft selections that were shuffled around as part of the process and at the stage, Carlton, Gold Coast (picks 2 &3), St Kilda and Port Adelaide hold the first five selections.

Essendon firmed in premiership betting from $14 at the start of the trade period into $10 with BetEasy, courtesy of landing Dylan Shiel. GWS have eased from $9 to $12.
