We are down to the penultimate weekend of the 2018 AFL season and the first of the two Preliminary Finals will be played on Friday September 20 when Richmond take on Geelong at the MCG.

The two Victorian based sides with the big supporter bases will be going all out to book a Grand Final spot and a crowd of over 90,000 fans is expected to turn up for the clash that gets underway at 7.50PM.

Richmond have been posted as the $1.38 favourites in the early head to head betting with BetEasy, while Geelong are at the $3 quote.

Little separated the two sides over the course of the home and away season. Geelong qualified in top spot with 16 wins, the same amount of victories that Richmond registered on their way to finishing 3rd. It was the Cats superior percentage that separated them from the Tigers.

However, Geelong got off to a rocky start in this year's finals series, losing to Collingwood in the Qualifying Final by 10 points. They rebounded last weekend with a 20 point victory over West Coast in the first of the Semi Finals.

The 2017 premiers, Richmond, have had one final to date, defeating Brisbane by 47 points in the Qualifying Final. They have since had the week off.

On Saturday, the action returns to the MCG, where Collingwood host the GWS Giants. First bounce is at the earlier slot of 4.35pm AEST and it is the Magpies that have been installed as the $1.50 favourites, ahead of GWS at $2.54.

Collingwood earned the right to host the Preliminary Final after defeating Geelong early on in the finals series. The Magpies finished the home and away season in 4th position, thus earning the double chance and setting up a home Prelim, courtesy of their 10 point win over Geelong in week one.

Nathan Buckley's side made the Grand Final in 2018 and have won 16 of their 23 games this season. GWS qualified in 6th spot this year but were too good for the Western Bulldogs in the Elimination Final, taking out that game by 62 points before holding on in a thriller against Brisbane, defeating the Lions by three points in the Semi Finals.

A win for GWS will take them one step closer to their first premiership after joining the league in 2012. The winner of the Collingwood and GWS game will face the winner of the Richmond and Geelong clash in the Grand Final on Saturday 28 September.
