The Brisbane Lions host North Melbourne at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Channel 7 and Fox Sports 3 will broadcast the action live with the first bounce of the Round 18 match scheduled for 7:25pm AEST.

Match Preview

An exciting Brisbane Lions team will have fans anticipating a big finals series with the team currently sitting third on the ladder with 11 wins and five losses. They have won four on the bounce, including wins over Port Adelaide and the GWS Giants on the road.

North Melbourne were beaten in the last minute by some Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti as Essendon won by five points. They sit 12th with seven wins and nine losses for the season.

The Lions have one of the best players in the competition. Lachie Neale is a Brownlow Medal contender that knows how to get the football. Averaging almost 32 possessions per game, Neale is a big reason for the Lions success this season. He averages three centre clearances per match and 25.3 effective disposals per game.

Defender Daniel Rich will celebrate his 200th game and he averages 6.2 rebound 50s per game, the most by any Lion. Alex Witherden is next best with 5.3. Charlie Cameron is a gun small forward that has kicked 12 goals from his last four matches and will be hard to stop again on Saturday night.

The Roos will be relying on in-form tall forward Ben Brown to kick another bag. If the Lions defence can shut him down, then expect Brisbane to win comfortably.

Team News

Brisbane Lions – Luke Hodge should return this week after a rest. Hugh McCluggage and Eric Hipwood will be tested. A couple of Lions could face the axe to make room for Hodge, McCluggage and/or Hipwood.

North Melbourne – Plenty of questions marks over this week’s team. Shaun Higgins is a chance to play and so is Mason Wood. Luke Davies-Uniacke could earn a recall. Luke McDonald will miss the season.

Match Odds

Brisbane Lions $1.36
North Melbourne $3.10
