  • The Dockers take on the Swans in AFL Round 18.
  • Here is our preview of the Perth Stadium clash

The Fremantle Dockers and the Sydney Swans feature in one of five AFL matches on Saturday July 20.

The Round 18 encounter will be played at Optus Stadium in Perth and first bounce is at 6.10pm AWST or 8.10pm AEST. All the action can be seen on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

The two sides come off losses in Round 17 and their respective finals chances are all but over. Fremantle have won seven of their 16 matches and sit in 13th position, while Sydney have won just six games and are 14th.

The Dockers have lost their past four games and went down to Hawthorn by 31 points at Launceston in Tasmania last weekend, while Sydney couldn't quite reel in Carlton, going down by seven at the SCG.

The Swans enjoyed a three game winning streak last month but have since lost their past two. Their coach, John Longmire, will need his side to improve their pressure around the contest as they were smashed in the contested possessions and clearances against Carlton.

Luke Parker, Josh Kennedy and George Hewett will need to be at their best, while the Swans will need more form their forwards in the absence of Lance Franklin.

Fremantle also have a number of areas to work on. In the past four weeks they are averaging just 57.5 points per game and seem to lack system when going forward.

Nat Fyfe shapes as a key player for Fremantle and single handedly kept the Dockers in the game last weekend with three goals and 24 possessions, while Brad Hill should provide plenty of run on the outside.

Selection News

It will be interesting to see if Fremantle swing the axe after their poor displays in recent weeks. Griffin Logue, Brett Begley and Taylin Duman are among those that could replace out of form players.

Sydney continue to be without Lance Franklin and Callum Sinclair. Darcy Cameron and Jarrad McVeigh will be out to prove their fitness and may come in to the side.

Match Odds

Fremantle $1.54
Sydney Swans $2.37

Stats

The two sides last met in Round 9 of 2018 and that game went the way of Sydney by 59 points. The Swans have won their past three against the Dockers by an average margin of 84 points. Only one was played in Perth and that was at Subiaco.

The Swans have never played Fremantle at Optus Stadium in Perth but defeated West Coast at the venue in Round 1 of 2018. They are two wins from seven outside of Sydney this season. Fremantle have won five of their seven games against interstate sides in Perth this year.

Prediction and Tips

This is a bit of a flip of the coin but it is Sydney that represent the value in the head to head betting
