Fremantle Dockers v Western Bulldogs Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Dockers look too good at home

Trent Orwin 24 Apr 2019
  • Fremantle are third on the ladder
  • Western Bulldogs have lost the last three against Freo

Fremantle look to continue their good early-season form when they host the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

The Round 6 clash will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and Fox Sports 3 with the first bounce at 6:10pm AWST (8:10pm AEST).

Match Preview

Fremantle have shocked many by sitting third on the ladder at this stage with three wins and two losses. They defeated the GWS Giants by 24 points at Manuka Oval last week. Defender Taylin Duman will miss one week due to suspension for striking Lachie Whitfield.

The Western Bulldogs were humiliated by Carlton to the tune of 44 points, with the win being the Blues’ first for the year. Inaccurate kicking didn’t help their cause as they scored 7.15.

Fremantle are sharing their goals around with Michael Walters kicking 11 for the year. Close behind are Cam McCarthy and Matt Taberner with 10 each. The Bulldogs may struggle to contain the Dockers forwards. Captain Nat Fyfe will be a handful for the Dogs as he comes off 31 touches against the Giants.

It will be a special occasion for David Mundy who plays his 300th game. One of Fremantle’s best players over the past decade, Mundy is having a great year averaging 24.4 disposals.

The Bulldogs have major ball winners in the form of Jack Macrae (31.6 disposals), Marcus Bontempelli (29.8), Caleb Daniel (27.4) and Lachie Hunter (26.6). They will need to win the midfield battle because the Dockers forward line looks threatening.

Team News

Fremantle forward Cam McCarthy should return after illness. Taylin Duman misses the match due to suspension.

The Western Bulldogs could make several changes due to their poor form against Carlton. Time will tell who the Dogs select to play against the Dockers.

Match Odds

Fremantle $1.44
Western Bulldogs $2.90
