Round 6 of the AFL home and away season concludes when the Geelong Cats play host to the West Coast Eagles.

The Sunday April 28 encounter shapes as a belter and the action gets underway at 4.40PM AEST. All the action can be seen on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

Geelong have been the early pacesetters in 2019 and sit on top of the AFL ladder with four wins to their credit from five games.

The Cats come off a hard fought 23 point win over their modern day rivals, Hawthorn, on easter Monday and should be hard to beat at their home ground of GMHBA Stadium.

They take on the 2018 premiers, West Coast, who have produced some indifferent form so far this season. The Eagles have won three of five and come off an upset loss to Port Adelaide last weekend by 42 points.

West Coast can enjoy some dominance in the aerial battles with Jeremy McGovern set to patrol the backline but Adam Simpson's side will need to find a way to get the ball inside their forward 50m a lot more this weekend after being smashed in this measure by Port Adelaide. Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling are among those that need to lift after combining for just one goal last weekend.

Geelong have a deep midfield that can push the Eagles. Patrick Dangerfield and Tim Kelly should be able to find plenty of it and it will be interesting to see how the two 'Gary's' fare after Gary Rohan and Gary Ablett combined for seven goals last weekend.

Selection News

Geelong's Brandon Parfitt hurt his quad in the win over Hawthorn and will be monitored at training. Zach Tuohy is a chance to return from injury, while Scott Selwood and Lachie Henderson are still another week or two away.

West Coast have few injury concerns. Jarrod Brander and Matthew Allen are two players in the WAFL that will be considered should the Eagles make changes after their loss last weekend.

Match Odds

Geelong $1.43
West Coast $2.70

West Coast have won the past two between the two sides but both of those encounters were held in Perth. Last year it was the Eagles by 15 points in Round 3 with Andrew Gaff and Dom Sheed starring for the winners.

The last time the two sides played at GMHBA Stadium was in Round 7 of 2016 and on that occasion it was the Cats by 44. West Coast have lost their past five at the venue, a sequence that stretches back to 2006.

Since the start or 2018, West Coast have won nine of 13 outside of W.A. In the same time period, Geelong have won nine of 11 at GMHBA Stadium.

Prediction and Tips

West Coast represent the value in the betting.
