The Gold Coast Suns host the Brisbane Lions in Round 6 at Metricon Stadium.

Fox Footy will broadcast the match live with the first bounce taking place at 1:45pm AEST.

Match Preview

The Gold Coast Suns and Brisbane Lions both enter the clash with three wins and two losses as they sit 11th and ninth on the ladder respectively. Both are coming off heavy defeats with the Suns beaten 119 to 46 against Adelaide and the Lions beaten 123 to 61 at home against Collingwood.

At this stage of the year, the Suns have been resilient with close-fought victories over Fremantle, Western Bulldogs and Carlton. All three matches were decided by less than a goal. The Lions on the other hand were shock winners in Round 1 as they dismantled the reigning premiers West Coast. Their momentum has completely stopped with big losses to Essendon and Collingwood.

Gold Coast’s midfielder Touk Miller has been known for his above-average tackling and he sits equal-second in the league with 38 tackles for the season. Expect his pressure to be pivotal in this encounter after the Lions were dreadful with possession against the Magpies. Alex Sexton up forward for the Suns will also be a key player with 13 majors so far this season, equal-fourth in the competition. He kicked one against the Crows, with Peter Wright kicking three of the Suns’ six for the entire match.

The key for the Lions will be Lachie Neale, Daniel Rich and Dayne Zorko. That trio will need to be good for the Lions to prevail at Metricon. Neale had 24 disposals against the Pies, down from his season average of 35.8 which leads the competition.

Team News

Brisbane vice-captain Harris Andrews injured his hamstring against Collingwood. Rhys Mathieson also succumbed to a hamstring injury in the match and both will miss the clash against the Suns.

The Gold Coast got through the Adelaide match unscathed, apart from their reputation. Will Powell could return to the line up after missing the match with concussion suffered in Round 4.

Match Odds

Gold Coast $2.75
Brisbane $1.42

* Correct at time of writing

Brisbane have won three of the past four against the Gold Coast, with three of them thrillers by less than a goal. The last time they met the Lions won by four points at Metricon Stadium. Dayne Beams was the star for Brisbane, but he has since re-joined Collingwood.

Both teams average similar numbers for disposals, clearances and inside 50s this season. The Suns currently average 16 more tackles and 18 more hit outs than the Lions.

Prediction and Tips

Brisbane have been disappointing at their past two but have met stronger opposition and can bounce back with a victory.
