North Melbourne v Adelaide Crows Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Can the Roos notch up much needed win?

  • The Kangaroos are winless after three rounds and desperately need a win.
  • They host Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night

North Melbourne and the Adelaide Crows feature in one of five AFL games on Saturday April 13 and the round four encounter shapes as a big one for both sides.

The action gets underway at 7.25PM at Marvel Stadium and will be broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.

Match Preview

Both sides are under the pump in the early stages of the 2019 home and away season. North Melbourne are winless after three games and went down to Hawthorn last weekend by 16 points.

Despite being tipped as one of the teams to beat this season, Adelaide have won just one of three and were no match for Geelong in round three, going down to the Cats by 24.

In that game, the Crows were wasteful in front of goals and if they can find their radar they can improve to register a much needed win. Taylor Walker and Bryce Gibbs are among some that need to lift, while the Crouch brothers are a couple that are in form and should prove to be difficult for the Roos to contain.

North Melbourne will find plenty of footy in the middle of the ground but their lack of goalscoring options up forward are a cause for concern with Ben Brown the only real target at the moment.

If the Roos are to win, the curly haired Tasmanian will need to kick a bag, while Jack Ziebell, Kayne Turner and Shaun Higgins are among others that will need to chime in.

Team News

North Melbourne have a number of players on the injury list including Marley Williams, Sam Durdin, Ben Jacobs and Mason Wood. That quartet are at least another couple of weeks away. It will be interesting to see if their coach, Brad Scott, swings any changes given that his side are yet to win a game.

Adelaide will be missing Paul Seedsman after the former Magpie hurt his knee last weekend. Sam Jacobs remains on the sidelines.

Match Odds

North Melbourne $2.34
Adelaide Crows $1.56

Stats

The two sides last met in Round 22 of 2018 and on that occasion it was Adelaide that prevailed by nine points. Rory Laird and Matt Crouch combined for 87 disposals, while Trent Dumont and Shaun Higgins were among North's best.

Earlier in the year, North Melbourne burst out of the blocks with a 10 goal opening term before eventually winning by 59 points at Blunstone Arena in Round 7. The last time the two sides faced each other at Marvel Stadium was in round one of 2016 and on that occasion it was North by 10 points. The Crows travelled to the venue three times in 2018 for two wins.

Prediction and Tips

This shapes as an interesting encounter but the Crows should have an edge in depth around the ground. If they can improve their accuracy in front of goal they can extend more misery on North Melbourne.
