AFL Round 13 concludes on Sunday June 16 when North Melbourne take on the GWS Giants at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

First bounce is at 3.20pm AEST and all the action can be seen live on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

North Melbourne have been the improvers in recent weeks and have won their past three. Those victories have come against the Western Bulldogs, Richmond and the Gold Coast.

Last weekend it was a 27 point win against the Suns, a victory that saw them jump to 12th spot on the ladder with five victories for the year.

Over the course of 2019, GWS have fared better and have won eight of their 12 hitouts to date. However, the Giants have a few injury concerns and went down to Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval in Round 12 by nine points.

The Giants hold favouritism for the game but the two sides compares similarly in a number of areas including average possessions, clearances and inside 50s.

Josh Kelly, Tim Taranto and Stephen Coniglio take on the likes of Ben Cunnington, Jack Ziebell and Trent Dumont in the middle and the battle in this part of the ground will be pivotal.

Up forward, GWS may have the edge and Jeremy Cameron and Jeremy Finlyason both feature in the top six players for goals scored this season. North have tightened up defensively in recent weeks and will need to stay on top of these players, while at the other end of the ground, Ben Brown remains a focal point and will be out for a big one in his home state of Tassie.

Selection News

Shaun Higgins is expected to miss for North Melbourne after sustaining an injury to his shoulder in the win over the Gold Coast last weekend. The Roos have a number of other players on the sidelines including Jamie Macmillan and Sam Wright.

GWS lost Toby Greene prior to the Crows game last weekend and the goal sneak will need to prove his fitness at training. Nick Haynes is in doubt. Lachie Whitfield remains on the sidelines.

Match Odds

North Melbourne $2.47
GWS Giants $1.50

* correct at the time of writing

North Melbourne have an excellent record against GWS, winning six of the eight games that have been played between the two sides. Last year, the Kangaroos ran out 43 point winners at Blundstone Arena in Round 9.

On that occasion, Jed Anderson and Shaun Higgins found plenty of the footy for the winners, while Stephen Coniglio was among the Giants best. North have won all three games at the venue between the two sides. The Roos have a good record at Blundstone Arena, winning five of their past six.

North Melbourne can head in with confidence at Blundstone Arena, given their recent form in 2019 and at the ground. Higgins is a key selection but the Roos can stick with the Giants in what should be a close one.
