The first of five AFL games on Saturday July 20 sees Richmond take on Port Adelaide at the MCG.

First bounce is at 1.45pm AEST and all the action can be seen live on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

Richmond head into this as strong favourites on the back of some superior recent form that has seen them win their past three matches.

Since the bye in June, the Tigers have welcomed back a host of key players from injury and have enjoyed victories over St Kilda, Gold Coast and GWS. Last weekend, it was a 27 point win over the Giants at the MCG.

Port Adelaide continued their inconsistency last weekend when they went down to Brisbane by 48 points. A poor first quarter cost the Power in that game. The week prior they were brilliant when defeating Adelaide by 57 but it is hard to predict just which Power side will turn up, the good or the bad.

When at their best, Ken Hinkley's side can trouble most sides and over the course of the year they average more disposals, contested possessions and clearances when compared to the Tigers.

Ollie Wines, Robbie Gray, Tom Rockliff and Travis Boak can get the edge in the middle of the ground but the Power will need to translate that into scoreboard pressure after registering just six goals last weekend.

Richmond are the more balanced of the two sides and have a number of players that can stand up. Last weekend it was Kane Lambert and Bachar Houli that fired, while the likes of Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt are others that can give the home side the upper hand.

Selection News

Toby Nankervis is edging closer towards a return for Richmond but is likely to miss. Josh Caddy will be considered for selection after producing a big game in the VFL.

Port Adelaide lose Ryan Burton to a hamstring injury. Dan Houston is set to come back in, while Xavier Duursma will be considered for a recall.

Match Odds

Richmond $1.25
Port Adelaide $3.70

Stats

The past four games between the two sides have all been played at the Adelaide Oval and the ledger is split at two wins apiece. Earlier this season, it was an undermanned Richmond by seven points with Tom Lynch booting six goals, while Brandon Ellis picked up 28 disposals.

The last time the two sides played at the MCG was in Round 6 of 2016 and that contest went the way of the Power by 15 points. Port generally play well at the venue and have won five of their past seven at the home of footy.

Prediction and Tips

Richmond will be too strong.
