  • Here is our preview of the Sunday afternoon clash

Two premiership contenders clash in Round 22 with Richmond hosting the reigning premiers West Coast Eagles at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The first bounce is scheduled for 1:10pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

Finals footy is just around the corner and we get a taste of that with the 2017 premiers Richmond tackling the defending champs, the West Coast Eagles. Both teams have winning streaks with the Tigers claiming their past seven matches and the Eagles their last four.

Richmond will be desperate to keep a top-four spot on the ladder as they sit fourth with a 14-6 record, while West Coast are third with a 15-5 record.

This contest is mouth-watering with both sides boasting two key forwards each. The Tigers have Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt who will look to kick more goals combined than their adversaries, Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy.

Both backlines will try to contain the tall forwards with the Tigers having Dylan Grimes and Nick Vlastuin down back. Bachar Houli provides plenty of run and carry off half-back. The Tigers won’t be able to just bomb the ball long with exceptional intercept markers Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass in defence for the Eagles. Skipper Shannon Hurn will look to kick long from kick-ins.

The midfield battle will be decisive in this contest with Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin (if they play) having plenty of help from Shane Edwards, Jack Ross, Dion Prestia and Brandon Ellis for the Tigers. They will meet star trio Elliot Yeo, Luke Shuey and Andrew Gaff. Throw in the likes of Jamie Cripps and Mark Hutchings for good measure.

Selection News

Richmond – Star Tigers Dustin Martin and captain Trent Cotchin will push for selection this week. Shai Bolton and Daniel Rioli are the most likely Tigers to face the axe. Mabior Chol could also be in trouble with Noah Balta a potential replacement.

West Coast Eagles – The Eagles could have an unchanged line-up for their trip to Melbourne.
