AFL Round 14 action sees St Kilda take on the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium on Saturday June 22.

First bounce is at 4.35pm AEST and all the action can be seen on Fox Sports.

Match Preview

We have passed the halfway mark of the season and the two sides are evenly poised. St Kilda kept their slim finals chances alive by defeating the Gold Coast Suns by four points last weekend and have not won six of their 12 games.

Brisbane have the slightly superior record and have picked up seven victories this season but threw away a golden opportunity against Carlton in Round 12, losing to the Blues by 15 points after earlier leading by 36. The Lions had the week off last weekend due to the bye and will head in with fresh legs.

Little separates the two sides in a number of statistical measures. Brisbane's Lachie Neale has been the standout possession getter this year but St Kilda average slightly more disposals throughout 2019, while contested possessions and clearances are also close.

Brisbane's Stefan Martin can give the Lions the first use of the ball in the ruck and the Lions have averaged more goals and inside 50s than their opposition this year but the home ground advantage brings the Saints right into it.

Jack Billings and Jade Gresham are in solid form, while Tim Membrey looms as target up forward. A Saints victory will see them level up with Brisbane and put themselves right into contention for a top eight spot. But a loss will make it hard and be a huge boost for the Lions in their quest to play finals for the first time since 2009.

Selection News

Brisbane will be sweating on the fitness of Dayne Zorko after the midfielder hurt his hiP in the Carlton loss. Ryan Bastinac and Oscar McInerney will be considered for selection.

St Kilda have no fresh injuries out of the Gold Coast game last weekend. Dan Hannebery and Jimmy Webster are edging closer to a return.

Match Odds

St Kilda $2.10
Brisbane Lions $1.72

Stats

The two sides have not met since the opening game of 2018 and on that occasion it was St Kilda by 25 points at Marvel Stadium. Seb Ross and Jack Steven found plenty of the footy for the Saints, while Jarrod Berry and Charlie Cameron combined for six goals.

The Saints have won four of the past five between the two sides. The Lions have not defeated St Kilda at the venue since the year 2000. They have won one of their two games at Marvel in 2019.

Prediction and Tips

I'm not convinced about Brisbane's form away from the GABBA this year with their loss against Carlton at this venue a recent example. St Kilda have done well to scrape together six wins this season and if the likes of Gresham and Billings get going they can make that seven.
