VFL Round 10 Tips and Preview - Undefeated Box Hill bid to maintain perfect record

Dale Fenney 23 Jun 2017
  • The undefeated Box Hill Hawks hosts Casey Demons in Channel 7 TV Game
  • Back to a seven-match round following the bye-rounds
  • Blockbuster clashes on Saturday and Sunday

With the bye-rounds completed, the Peter Jackson VFL season will heat right up as we hit the turn to the second half of the season in Round 10 this weekend.

The action kicks off with a blockbuster opening when Essendon hosts Williamstown at Windy Hill on Saturday afternoon. Williamstown are flying with six straight wins catapulting them to 2nd on the ladder with a 7-2 record. Essendon are living life on the edge in 8th spot with a 4-5 record. Williamstown's inaccuracy cost them a bigger percentage booster last round when they kicked 16.22 (118) to 9.8 (62) to defeat North Ballarat. Essendon had the bye and will enter this clash fresh.

Port Melbourne will be expecting a big crowd when Collingwood heads to North Port Oval on Saturday afternoon. The Borough are sitting pretty in 3rd spot with a 6-1-1 record whilst Collingwood finds themselves third last (12th) and in real danger of missing finals footy. Port Melbourne came out firing last weekend to demolish the Coburg Lions by 64 points at Piranha Park to net a handy percentage lifter. Collingwood were nowhere to be seen as they rested up with the bye.

Sandringham Zebras will be on hand to tackle the Coburg Lions on Saturday afternoon at Trevor Barker Beach Oval. Sandringham sit just outside the top 8 on percentage in 10th position. Coburg are second last and are still searching for that elusive first win this season after a 0-9 start. The Zebras come into the game following the bye whilst Coburg will be out to prove something after a humiliating 10-goal defeat to Port Melbourne last round at home.

Footscray and Werribee will battle it out in a mouth-watering clash at Whitten Oval on Saturday. The Bulldogs (6th) and Tigers (5th) are both knocking on the door of the top-four and a win will go a long way to securing a double-chance spot. Footscray were beaten last round in a thriller to Casey Demons away from home, while Werribee were also involved in a thriller but got the four-points as they defeated the Northern Blues by 14 points at IKON Park in the TV game.

Box Hill Hawks are set to face the in-form Casey Demons at home (Box Hill City Oval) on Saturday afternoon in the Channel 7 TV game. The game will be a blockbuster and highlight of Round 10. Box Hill are on top of the ladder with a 7-0-1 record whilst the Casey Demons are up to 7th following four straight successive wins. The Hawks head into the clash off the bye whilst Casey had a big 13-point win in the Grand Final rematch over the Footscray Bulldogs.

Prior to the AFL teams battling it out at the MCG, Richmond will take on the Northern Blues at Punt Road Oval on Sunday at 12.00pm. Richmond will be desperate for a big win, sitting in 9th position and trailing Essendon just by percentage. Northern Blues are 4th and will be hoping to consolidate a top-four spot. The Tigers picked up a big victory last weekend, defeating Geelong by 49 points at Punt Road Oval. The Northern Blues dropped a vital home game against Werribee.

North Ballarat play host to the Geelong Cats at Eureka Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Roosters are sitting last with a 0-9 record and are desperate to give their fans a victory. Geelong are 11th with 3-5 record to sit just one game outside the top eight. The Roosters were beaten by Williamstown last weekend whilst Geelong suffered a big loss to Richmond with both sides looking to bounce back this weekend.
