VFL Round 7 Tips and Preview - Port Melbourne and Box Hill clash in game of round

Dale Fenney 2 Jun 2017
  • Port Melbourne host the undefeated Box Hill
  • Williamstown take on Geelong
  • Two teams will have the bye

After last weekend's State Games, the VFL will return with a near full card of mouth-watering clashes in Round 7.

The opening game of the round sees Essendon host the winless North Ballarat Roosters at Windy Hill on Saturday. Competition for spots inside the top 8 are heating up and Essendon are sitting 3-4 and in eighth spot on the ladder. North Ballarat's season essentially is make or break with a 0-6 record leaving them with a lot of work to do. Last weekend Essendon were one of the four teams to play, going down to Richmond by 17 points whilst North Ballarat had the bye.

It's set to be the clash of the Tigers with Richmond hosting Werribee on Saturday afternoon at Holm Park. This game will be more than just four premiership points on the line with the two sides sitting 9th and 6th respectively. Werribee are 6th with a 4-2 record whilst Richmond are 9th just below with a 3-4 record. Richmond steered their season back on track last week defeating Essendon by 17 points at home to draw even with the Bombers at 3-4 and just outside the top 8 on percentage.

The feature game of the round sees two powerhouses of the competition lock horns. Port Melbourne will host Box Hill Hawks at North Port Oval on Saturday afternoon with the game to be televised live on Channel 7. Port Melbourne are third on the ladder with just the one blemish in their 5-1 start to the season. Box Hill Hawks continue to be the competition pace setters sitting in top spot with a 6-0 record. Both sides come into the game fresh off the bye.

Collingwood will lock horns with Sandringham on Sunday afternoon at Victoria Park. The Magpies have been well below par this season and their season will just about be on the line in this clash. Collingwood are third last after just one win from six games to date. Sandringham are seventh on the table and have a 4-3 record. Sandringham will be looking forward to this game after last week's thrashing by 99 points to reigning premiers Footscray.

Coburg Lions are still searching for their first win of the season when they play host to the Casey Demons at Piranha Park this Sunday. Coburg have been close on a few occasions but just haven't got the biscuits with a 0-6 record to be 13th on the ladder. Last season's grand finalists Casey haven't hit the ground running yet with a 2-4 record to be just 11th on the ladder. Once again both sides had the bye last run which gives them freshness heading into the match.

Channel 7 will be hosting two VFL games this round with the second coming on Sunday when Williamstown host Geelong at Burbank Oval. Williamstown are up to fourth on the ladder after a 4-2 start to the season. Geelong are sitting their abouts after a 3-3 start has them 10th on the ladder.

The Northern Blues and Footscray will have the bye this round.
