VFL Round 9 Tips and Preview - Casey Demons and Footscray clash in Grand Final rematch

VFL Round 9 is headlined by a Grand Final rematch as Casey Demons and Footscray clash on a big weekend as the intensity will pick up with positions on the ladder on the line.

The game of the round will see a Grand Final rematch between Casey and Footscray at Casey Fields on Saturday night. The game will be played under lights at 7:00pm. Casey Demons have won three games on the trot to storm into the top eight and level their season at 4-4. Footscray are fifth on the ladder and knocking on the door of the top four making this clash even more anticipated. The Demons completed their hat-trick last round when defeating Collingwood at home by 19 points. Footscray won a thriller against Essendon by four points on Friday night football.

Coburg will clash with Port Melbourne in a VFL stand alone clash at Piranha Park, to kick start the weekend of football on Saturday afternoon. Coburg are hoping to turn their season around at home after a woeful 0-8 start to the season. Port Melbourne are sitting in fourth with 5-1-1 entering this weekend's match. The Coburg Lions have been playing great football and have been competitive for the entire season but just can't find that extra level to win the matches. Last week Coburg were downed in a thriller to the Northern Blues by nine points. Coburg kicked six of the last seven goals to just fall at the final hurdle, Port Melbourne come into this weeks clash fresh off the bye.

The Northern Blues and Werribee Tigers will clash in an epic 3rd v 6th match at IKON Park on Saturday afternoon. Channel 7 will telecast the game live on Saturday at 2:00pm. The Northern Blues won their sixth successive match last weekend when defeating Coburg by nine points at home. Six unanswered goals – three each side of half time, saw the Blues secure the win. Werribee had the bye.

Richmond will take on Geelong in a big Saturday twilight match at Punt Road Oval. This will be a massive games in terms of both the Tigers and Cats season with four premiership points precious. Richmond (10th) and Geelong (11th) both have 3-5 records and both sit a game outside the eight effectively turning this game into a big eight-point match. The Tigers and Cats are both coming fresh into the game off the bye last round.

The final game of the round will see the second placed Williamstown host the 14th placed North Ballarat at Burbank Oval on Sunday afternoon. Williamstown are 6-2 and just sitting off the top-placed Box Hill. North Ballarat have been playing some good football lately and will be hoping their fortune changes this Sunday. Williamstown kicked the first four goals of the final term to take a 24-point win over Sandringham. North Ballarat were gallant in defeat last round taking on the 1st placed Hawks, the Roosters hung in their all afternoon and threatened to steal the win but fell to a narrow 13-point loss.

Essendon, Sandringham, Box Hill Hawks and Collingwood will all sit out this round with the bye.
