West Coast Eagles v Port Adelaide Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Eagles to be too strong at home

Trent Orwin 16 Apr 2019
  • West Coast have won their last three
  • Port Adelaide on a two-match losing streak

West Coast host Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Friday night as the home side looks to make it four-straight wins in this Round 5 clash.

The first bounce will be 6:10pm local time, or 8:10pm AEST. It will be broadcast live on Fox Footy.

Match Preview

The reigning premiers are starting to fire with West Coast winning their past three matches. The latest was a low-scoring encounter in the Western Derby against Fremantle. The Eagles kicked 10.9 (69) to Fremantle’s 7.14 (56).

Port Adelaide’s momentum has halted. Beginning the season with two wins, the Power have lost their past couple against Brisbane by 17 points and Richmond by seven points.

Home-ground advantage will go a long way to see the Eagles triumph and their forward line, led by their two big men in Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling, will be hard for the Power to stop. Darling has kicked 10 goals for the season so far, with Kennedy and Oscar Allen kicking seven goals each.

Regular names such as Premiership heroes Dom Sheed and Luke Shuey will be vital for the Eagles to gain the upper hand during the match and their skipper Shannon Hurn has started 2019 in brilliant form.

Port Adelaide haven’t been far away and they will be relying on Travis Boak, Tom Rockliff and Brad Ebert to play well in order to get close to the Eagles on the road.

Team News

West Coast have a very small injury list at present and Lewis Jetta could return from hamstring tightness.

Port Adelaide don’t have anything to report from their loss to Richmond.

Match Odds

West Coast $1.22
Port Adelaide $4.30

* Correct at time of writing

West Coast have won their past three matches over Port Adelaide. Two of those have been thrillers with the Eagles beating the Power by four points at Adelaide Oval in Round 21 last year. Defender Jeremy McGovern was the hero by kicking the winning goal after the siren. Luke Shuey had 31 disposals in the game for the Eagles.

Round 16, 2017, is the last time that the Power defeated the Eagles with a 32-point win over the Eagles.

Prediction and Tips

West Coast are playing well with a hat-trick of wins and should be too good for Port Adelaide at home.
