Match Preview

The Western Bulldogs are making a late charge for September action and winning here secures them a spot in finals. If Essendon lose, the Bulldogs can jump up to seventh on the ladder and book an elimination final against the GWS Giants – the team they embarrassed last week 126-65.

Marcus Bontempelli and Jack Macrae are stars for the Bulldogs in the centre of the ground. Macrae had 39 disposals against the Giants; both Josh Dunkley and Patrick Lipinski kicked two goals each along with six and seven marks respectively. Aaron Naughton is also potent up forward and kicked two also.

The Crows come off a 66-point loss to Collingwood at home. Brad Crouch and Matt Crouch had 24 each, which is down on their 30.5 and 31.8 disposal average. Co-captain Taylor Walker was a non-factor against the Pies and fellow co-captain Rory Sloane only had 17 possessions. They need more out of both skippers in order to challenge the dogs.

Expect the Dogs to play with speed and they could leave the Crows floundering at some stage. Poor clangers didn’t help the Crows last week and any similar mistakes will see the Dogs make them pay.

Selection News

Western Bulldogs – Ruckman Tim English should return from illness. Billy Gowers is in the same boat and should return also. Lewis Young should make way for English.

Adelaide Crows – Riley Knight and Jake Kelly will both be tested. Alex Keath should make his way back into the senior side. Rory Atkins will be in the mix too. Bryce Gibbs is under the pump and Reilly O’Brien may not be required this week.

Match Odds

Western Bulldogs $1.31
Adelaide Crows $3.45

* Correct at time of writing
