NFL Tips and 2018/19 Season Predictions - 3 best bets for the new season

  • 3 predictions for the new NFL season

The 2018/19 NFL season is here as the race to Super Bowl LIII begins and we've picked out three tips for you to be backing across the action.

The 2018 Super Bowl saw the Phildelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots to claim their maiden NFL title, but they could be in for a much tougher campaign this time around.

We've hunted out some value bets as we make three predictions for the 2018/19 season.

1. Cincinnati Bengals have a strong season

The Cincinnati Bengals have enjoyed a strong pre-season, finishing 3-1 and going down by a point in their only defeat. For many, their record might not count for much because the pre-season games are not contested with significant interest. However, in the victory over the Bills, the Bengals' starters destroyed their counterparts. Furthermore, we've seen Cincinnati's QB deliver some good stats and that does bode well for their regular season.

It was a few seasons ago when Andy Dalton was on the mid-season shortlist for MVP favorites. The Bengals' QB has since fallen on harder times but he has shown promise in his pre-season warm-up. His completion percentage is 71% for the game time that he has seen in the first three pre-season games. He has also thrown for four touchdowns in the three games despite seeing limited minutes.

Cincinnati does not have a great reputation heading into the 2018/19 season and expectations among the pundits are low. That looks to be to the advantage of bettors at this point. Look for Cincy to win at least 9 games this season, meaning the OVER side for team wins is good with a lot of sportsbooks. For instance, Unibet has Cincy at 7 wins with the OVER side priced at $1.85.

Nine wins will get a team into the post-season part of the time in the NFL. There's also $7.00 "To make the playoffs" with Ladbrokes.

2. Tom Brady has a poor season

When it comes to Tom Brady, you have to think that his age only works against him heading into the 2018/19 NFL season. He might get injured and if he did then he would have a terrible time living up to his passing yardage expectations. But even if he stays healthy, there's a chance that he sees limited playing time just do to coaching decisions. The latter possibility could play out if New England's coaches feel the need to sit Brady a little extra to preserve his fitness for the entire season.

There is good reason to be a little shaky about the Patriots this upcoming season. With a high target of 11 wins expected, you have to play the UNDER side. If Brady goes, then 10 wins or less could be a slam dunk for a winning bet. But even if Brady stays, there's a legitimate question about what he will do on field at his advanced age. Look for the Pats to win 10 or fewer games this season and look for Brady to throw for less than 3800 yards.

3. Philadelphia Eagles buckle under weight of expectations

The Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites to win the NFC. However, their star QB is a question mark at this point. Some think that Carson Wentz will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Others think that Wentz is more likely to be ready by Week 3.

If you consider the fact that Wentz might have some rust whenever he does take to the field then it follows that Philadelphia, who are 1-3 in the pre-season, might have some early regular-season woes to fade before their star QB hits stride. What happens if Philadelphia start out 1-3? That could put them in a struggle to make Wild Card Weekend.

When you are defending Super Bowl champs, it's not just business as usual for you. Philly is going to take a lot of heat if they aren't on song and Doug Pederson, the head coach, has shown some signs of cracking. He seemed kind of frustrated with reporters this past weekend and there could be a lot more of that coming.

Look for Philly to follow up their Super Bowl victory from last season poorly. For a betting angle, take the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East at $4.25 with Neds.
