France clash with Australia in the second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup on Monday night at 10:00pm AEST.

It was a tight contest on Saturday, but France prevailed 78-75 over Lithuania. Evan Fournier led the way with 24 points on 10-22 shooting. Nando De Colo scored 21 points and Nicolas Batum dropped 12 points.

Their tournament so far has seen them defeat Germany 78-74, obliterate Jordan 103-64 and smash the Dominican Republic 90-56.

Australia comes off an 82-76 victory over Dominican Republic. Patty Mills was the player of the game with 19 points, nine assists and two steals. Andrew Bogut played an all-round game with eight points, eight rebounds and six assists. Chris Goulding scored 15 and Jock Landale had 13 points.

The Boomers tournament so far has included a 108-92 win over Canada, 81-68 victory over Senegal and 87-82 win over Lithuania.

Tonight’s game could have big ramifications for the remainder of the tournament. Neither team will want to cop the USA first in the knockout stage; the loser from tonight may have that match up.

Fournier has had an excellent tournament, averaging 18.3 points per game. Center Rudy Gobert is averaging 11.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and a whopping 2.3 blocks per game. Both players will be pivotal to France’s success tonight. The Boomers won’t find it easy against the reigning two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Gobert, who stands 7’1”.

Mills has been incredible for the Boomers with 19.8 points per game and he will need to score around 20 or more for the Aussies to walk away with the win. Aron Baynes is averaging 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, whilst Matthew Dellavedova is averaging 11.5 points and six assists. Joe Ingles does a bit of everything and his efforts on the defensive end are going to be important tonight.

France look the slightly better team heading into tonight and we think they can cover the line.
