Can the Warriors sweep the Cavs?

The Golden State Warriors hold a 3-0 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Finals. Game 4 is Saturday morning (AEST). Will the Warriors sweep LeBron James and the Cavaliers, or will the Cavs force a Game 5 in Oakland?

As Game 4 draws closer, there are two distinct feelings. One, the Warriors will end the NBA season on Saturday with a sweep of the Cavaliers. Two, this game in Quicken Loans Arena is likely to be LeBron James’ last in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform.

Kevin Durant was the big story coming out of game 3, however, It’s LeBron James I want to talk about first. LeBron finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, but it was the last six minutes that told the tail moving forward.

James looked utterly gassed and defeated down the stretch of game 3. He did not take over in the last six minutes, allowing Kevin Love to Iso in the post and J.R. Smith to take jump shots. He made one three moving to his right late in the fourth quarter, but for the most part, didn’t have his jumpshot and his dribble didn’t look sharp.

This told me that after his 51-point effort in Game 1, an eye-poke and a turned ankle, that LeBron James is done in this series and done in Cleveland.

Kevin Durant was simply incredible. He showed why he is a superstar, finishing with 43 points on 15-23 shooting from the field and 6-9 shooting from three-point range. Durant did it all, including his three-point dagger from 35-feet that was remarkably similar to the shot he hit over LeBron James in Game 3 of the finals last year.

Durant was superb on a night where he needed to be. Stephen Curry shot 3-16 from the field and 1-10 from three-point range, finishing with only 11 points. Klay Thompson never found a rhythm, shooting only 4-11 from the field and connecting on just two triples.

Looking ahead to Game 4, the obvious question is, will this be a sweep? I said before Game 3 that the Cavaliers chance to get a game was in Game 3 and I still stand by that statement. I’m confident the Warriors wrap this up on Saturday.

The argument has been made that the Cavaliers were down 3-0 last year and won Game 4 convincingly. To that I say, things are different, much different. The Cavs had Kyrie Irving who went for 40 points and made seven threes. The team made 24 threes and shot better than 50 percent from the field and from the three-point line. That is not happening again.

The Cavs know they have no shot of winning this series. They have a beaten up LeBron James, Kevin Love and a bunch of roleplayers, that include Rodney Hood who somehow looked like the third-best Cavalier in Game 3.

The NBA season will be finished by Saturday afternoon and backing the Warriors can make it a profitable way end to the season.
