Randwick Tips - August 4

Race 1 - 11:55AM WINTER RACING HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
It is a little premature to make this call, but some in the know claim OSORNO might develop into one of the season's best 3YOs. He has the pedigree and he also has a powerful finishing kick. Tough ask giving everything weight here but he is fit and if the scout reports are correct, he will be charging down the middle of the track to win this.

Race 2 - 12:30PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Two things make this bloke from Mudgee, PRINCE OF THEBES, stand out here. Firstly, he’s a solid one-batter, meaning he will roll forward, probably unchallenged, and he can just keep bowling along at a swift tempo, grinding the wind out of most of their sails. Secondly, he does look well in here because he looks the only genuine speed. And the 2kg claim is a massive help.

Race 7 - 3:30PM MOSTYN COPPER GROUP MISSILE STAKES (1200 METRES)

Race 9 - 4:50PM AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
There should be a lot of pace early here but not many strong finishes so genuine speedsters may take this. I like PENDELOQUE. She goes very well for young James Innes and she trialed like a bomb recently in preparation for this. Did win 2 in a row this grade when last in work and may have come back even better. Soothing can dash late for 2nd.

July 21 (Aaron Hamilton)

Race 1 - 11:40AM ROSEBUD PRELUDE (1000 METRES)
Hugh Bowman takes the ride on the promising PLAGUE STONE, and on his previous first-up form, he should be resuming with a win here. Last campaign he was beaten half a length by subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By where he worked home strongly in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m). He disappointed in the Blue Diamond but was far from disgraced finishing 3.7 lengths from Aylmerton in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m). With two trial wins to prepare him for this, he can get us off to a good start for the day.
Result (1st - $2.25)

Race 4 - 1:25PM TAB REWARDS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
GREEN SWEET really impressed last start when giving a lot of weight to some handy horses but still hitting the line better than anything over 1500m. He defeated Cool Chap in the Albury Gold Cup (2000m) last autumn, and with three runs under his belt this campaign, he looks perfectly suited over a mile.
Result (unplaced)

Race 6 - 2:35PM ATC OWNER BENEFITS CARD HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
SEPOY ACHEVA looks ready to win now following three runs this campaign. She worked home stylishly last start coming from last to grab 2nd place over 1600m where she seemed to peak on her run late. She’s not quite there in the coat and that run over a mile would have tightened her up as she drops back to 1400m. Kerrin McEvoy is likely to take her back from barrier 9 and she should be strong through the line.
Result (unplaced)

Race 2 - 12:10PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
There is considerable interest and speculation about the sprinting ability of this Goulburn-trained filly HIGHWAY SIXTYSIX. She hasn't raced since November but the feeling is she will jump away brilliantly, cross the face of these and outsprint them down the running. Big advice: watch betting moves.
Result (1st - $3.20)

Race 4 - 1:20PM HALF YEARLY MEMBERSHIP MILE (1600 METRES)
If the sun which shone upon Randwick on Thursday and reached 23 degrees stays in that mode, the track should dry out and play very fast for a winter meet. And that will suit MEDAILLE here. She can jump and go forward. Probably sits back on the fence in 2nd behind Wide Spread Panic and now that she is super fit, and weighted to win, I suspect she will be too classy down the running from La Chica bella.
Result (unplaced)

Race 9 - 4:30PM AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB SPRINT (1000 METRES)
I love this mare SHE KNOWS. She is in sensational form and to me is just about a weighted certainty.
Result (2nd)

June 23

Race 5 - 1:45PM ELITE SAND & SOIL MILE (1600 METRES)
This does look like the race SPECIAL MISSILE finally bounces back to winning form in. Mainly because he is the only leader and as such will lob straight to the front with his light weight and he will be there as they turn and will keep whacking away because nothing challenged him mid race. Sons Of John and Mighty Lucky look likely to plug on into the places. Easy trifecta for mine.
Result (3rd)

Race 7 - 3:05PM ELITE HAULAGE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
You'd have to suspect that if Matty Smith, who trains FARAWAY TOWN, considered her in such manner that she could win the Group 1 Tatt's Tiara at Doomben on Saturday, then she should be winning this. Jungle Edge has a huge weight and although he is super slick and flies through the mud, she can run him down with big weight advantage in her favour. That's if she starts. She still might get a run in that Brisbane race. Anyway, she is on top here - if scratched, Jungle Edge leads all way.
Result (3rd)

Race 8 - 3:45PM HI QUALITY TURF HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
This Canberra horse LIKE A SHOT is extremely good. He is up a long long way in grade but he has won his past 2 runs down there on the synthetic track, with ease, and both times absolutely defying the massive front running bias of the day. He sits back then does what his name says, comes home like a shot. Big price I suspect but watch him late.
Result (scratched)

June 9

Race 2 - 12:00PM TAB HIGHWAY CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Really like the look of this LARLABROOK in this. Big weight yes, but lovely gate and Greg Ryan, who landed 4 winners and a 2nd at Wellington on Thursday, has the mount. Will travel sweetly, probably in front and now that he has a run under his belt, he can turn the screws at the 300m and steel a march.
Result (scratched)

Race 4 - 1:10PM WINTER RACING BM 87 HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
This French import ARAAJA looks thrown in here. In his 2nd start in Australia, last run, was when he got home hard from the back to grab 3rd. Should be super fit now and is weighted to blow by his stablemates late and win. Quinella Solo Mission with him.
Result (3rd)

Race 7 - 3:10PM STAYER'S CUP (3200 METRES)
He's a rising 10-year-old and he has 61kg on a heavy track. He has to give 8kg to EVERY runner but I think he's a good thing. It's old DESTINY'S KISS of course. He is just so honest, loves this track, can stay all day, and eats the mud for breakfast. Can't wait to back him again.
Result (3rd)

May 26

Race 1 - 11:25AM ENERGY AIR PLATE 2YO (1400 METRES)
Very strong autumn field of juveniles. This race will tell us if THE AUTUMN SUN is as good as the boom on him suggests. He stormed the fortresses to win on debut and will head to Queensland for Group 1 action if he runs over these. And he should. His stablemate Pembroke Castle can hang on for 2nd.
Result (1st - $2.60)

Race 5 - 1:55PM EML HANDICAP BM 85 (1600 METRES)
When they reached the 200m mark of the BM 95 last week, VELADERO was making a long sustained run at the lead. He wilted final stages and wound up a close up 5th. This is lengths easier and in fact 10 BM points lighter. Gets 2kg claim too and should dash late. Philosophy can run on for 2nd.
Result (unplaced)

Race 7 - 3:15PM $150,000 MCKELL CUP (2400 METRES)
If it rains, get on DESTINY'S KISS for everything you've got. Even if it doesn’t he still shapes up as the one to beat. He is the superior 2400m stayer here and meets his main rivals Ecuador and Our Century a few kilos better at the weights. Is fit and ready for this now.
Result (1st - $19)

What Bets To Place at Randwick Races

There are a number of ways to bet on horse racing this weekend from a standard win or place bet to quadrellas and multibets.

SINGLE: The most common bet. The single bet involves betting on your selection to win, place, or both (each-way). If betting each-way (see our guide for what an each-way bet is), the stake is doubled as you are betting on your selection to win, and also to place.

QUINELLA: A Quinella bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least three or more runners. To win a Quinella, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in any order

EXACTA: An exacta is exactly the same as a quinella. However, you must successfully predict the 1st and 2nd placegetters in the correct order

TRIFECTA: A Trifecta bet is available on every thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a Trifecta, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a given race.

FIRST4: A First4 bet is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race provided there are at least four or more runners. To win a First4, you must successfully predict the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters in a given race.

MYSTERY BET: A Mystery Bet takes the guess work out of picking a Trifecta and is generated by the betting agency’s computer. The computer system will randomly select three runners and if they fill the placings you win the Trifecta.

QUADDIE: A Quaddie bet, or Quadrella bet as it is fully known, is available on most thoroughbred, harness and greyhound race meetings. A quaddie is betting on the winners of four nominated races, which are typically the last four races of any meeting, and is a very popular bet.

MULTIBET: Multibets offer a great way to secure big winning returns on your bets as you combine various bets into one, and are proving to be an extremely popular way to bet. A multibet combines any number of bets from two to 25 into one single bet and dramatically increases the odds.

PATENT BET: A Patent bet is similar to a three-leg multibet but is made up of seven separate bets: three singles, three doubles and a trio. Where a multibet requires all selections to win for a return, a patent bet will yield a return from just one winner.

ALL-IN BETTING: All-In betting involves a bookmaker offering fixed odds on selected feature races prior to the declaration of the final field. All-In betting on the Melbourne Cup, for example, is available for the better part of 12 months leading into the event. The risk with All-In Betting is that you will not receive your stake back if your horse is scratched.

Randwick Race Track Description

Randwick is the largest racetrack in New South Wales and all races are run in a clockwise direction. It is a sweeping track with a rise from the 300m mark to the winning post in the home straight.

As well as the main track, Randwick Racecourse contains a second track known as Kensington. Due to large rainfall in the area, Kensington has been reconstructed using the Strathayr racing surface which is similar to Moonee Valley.

Strathayr is a turf cover over a base of sand, this means it is a free draining track which can take a substantial amount of rain without affecting the rating.
