Adelaide Strikers v Brisbane Heat BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Strikers bid to boost finals hopes

Alex Carey of the Adelaide Strikers

It took the Adelaide Strikers a repeat of last season's final to turn up as they kept their finals hopes alive with victory over Hobart Hurricanes and they now face an already-eliminated Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The Strikers (W5, L7) are still outside the top-four, but are in with a fighting chance if they win their next two. The Heat (W4, L7, NR1) are coming off their first home win of the season, but their only real hope left in the season is to avoid the wooden spoon.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers were disappointing through the game, but as they showed against the Hurricanes they can be destructive on their day. Jake Weatherald (318 runs, SR 130.86) and Alex Carey (278 runs) still remain their best bet to keep them steaming on.

With the ball, it is the consistent and ever-dangerous Rashid Khan (16 wickets, ER 6.08) who continues to be the torch-bearer. The Strikers will hope for some support from the likes of Michael Neser and Peter Siddle (ER 6.26).

Brisbane Heat

After a disappointing season that has already ended their progression hopes, the Heat enjoyed a rare home win over the Scorchers. As it turned out, Chris Lynn (385 runs, SR 127.06) still packs a punch as one the most dangerous BBL players around.

Bowling has been up and down, with the responsibilities shared largely by the duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman (12 wickets, ER 6.04) and Josh Lalor (14 wickets, ER 7.38). Interestingly, Ben Cutting (11 wickets) has been popping up on the radar with his wickets now and then.

Match Up

The Strikers have everything to play for against a Heat side that has nothing to gain. The run-rate of the hosts is still on the negative side, so we may expect more aggression from the top-half of the Strikers. As for the Heat players, it will be another chance to underline their credentials as an exciting team.

Key Battles

Weatherald, when in form, is one of the most difficult batsmen to bowl at. The Heat bowlers will be wary of his increasing confidence.

Lalor has been the most impressive Heat bowler in the recent games, as he continues to be effective. Another leading performance will do no harm to his credentials.

History & Statistics

  • The visiting side has won seven of the eight matches between the Strikers and the Heat.
  • Strikers have won four of the last five matches against the Heat.
  • Strikers have won five of the six matches they won the toss against the Heat.
  • Heat have won three of the four matches played at this venue.
  • Heat have won both their matches against the Strikers when the won the toss.

Prediction

There is no doubt about which team has the bigger incentive to turn up in this game – the Strikers will feel the need to continue winning and stay in the finals race. For the Heat, it is a chance to play party pooper, which makes them dangerous.

Tips

Back the Strikers to win @ $1.71 (Sportsbet).

Back the Heat to score the most 6s @ $1.95 (BetEasy).

Back Weatherald to hit at least one six @ $2.20 (Ladbrokes).
