Adelaide Strikers v Sydney Sixers BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Strikers to edge a tight one

Jake Weatherald

Two teams with the same number of points and in the top-half of the BBL standings battle it out at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday as Adelaide Strikers (W3, L2) host Sydney Sixers (W3, L3).

The competition is heating up and both sides will be eager to pick up a win and maintain their push for playoff qualification. With the unbeaten Hobart Hurricanes setting the pace at the top, these two sides know that they need to keep winning to move away to remain at the head of the chasing pack.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers have seen their top-three doing the job with the bat so far. Alex Carey (161 runs, SR 115), Jake Weatherald (153 runs, SR 142.99) and Colin Ingram (105 runs, SR 140) have been the standout performers for the defending champions. Carey will leave for national ODI duty soon, which puts pressure on the rest of the batsmen to maintain their form.

Bowling has been about Rashid Khan (eight wickets, ER 4.65), with Billy Stanlake (seven wickets, ER 9.05) too erratic.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers continue to impress in patches, but the reliance on Jordan Silk (193 runs, SR 124.51) and Daniel Hughes (164 runs, SR 130.15) with the bat could become a problem. Captain Moises Henriques (134 runs, SR 117.54) needs more from his batting, while Tom Curran (10 wickets, 111 runs) continues to impress.

Steve O’Keefe (11 wickets) has been the surprise package of the Sixers’ season, but the lack of consistency from the bowling attack needs to be addressed. The Sixers need Joe Denly (61 runs, SR 83.56) to pick up the pieces sooner than later.

Match Up

The Strikers have been top-heavy this season and will continue to be so in this match. How well the trio of Carey, Weatherald and Ingram performs could decide their fortunes.

For the Sixers, it has been an up and down season throughout BBL08. The experienced Denly and Henriques are yet to fire. How they perform against the miserly Strikers’ bowling unit could decide if the Sixers can pull an upset.

Key Battles

Weatherald had a string of sub-par scores before coming into his own against the Renegades in the last match. The feisty opener will look to make it count for the second match in a row.

For the Sixers, it is Hughes who has been impressive this season with consistent performances. His ability to pick up another big score could be vital for their chances of victory.
