Australia v India 3rd T20 Tips, Predictions and Match Preview

Rain saved Australia in the second T20I in Melbourne as only 19 overs of action werepossible. India will feel hard done and irked by the ‘rain disturbance’ in both the matches. The series will wind down in Sydney with the third T20I scheduled for Sunday.

Australia will have a great chance to win a home T20I series for the first time since 2014. Not just that, a chance to erase the hurt of recent poor form and pick up some silverware is a great opportunity for Australia.

Australia Match Preview

Australia meandered through their batting innings and could only reach 132/7 in 19 overs, before persistent rain cancelled the match. The hosts’ batsmen couldn’t read the conditions or the opposition bowlers and looked set for a below-par score.

Only Ben McDermott (32*) has played an intelligent knock, while a late push from Nathan Coulter-Nile (18 from 9 balls) gave them some respectability. With the series on the line, the Kangaroos will hope that their top-order can fire.

A lot will depend once again on how Glenn Maxwell and Chris Lynn can stump the Indian bowlers with their aggressive stroke play.

India Match Preview

The Indian bowlers were a lot disciplined in Melbourne than they were in Brisbane.Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/20) and Khaleel Ahmed (2/39) were on the dot from the beginning and made sure that the Aussie innings didn’t take off.

The spinners also enjoyed the tacky conditions in Melbourne, giving them confidence ahead of another similar surface in Sydney. Virat Kohli’s men will look to continue that trend and do the basics right, just like they did in Melbourne.

It will be another test of how disciplined India can be – if they repeat their Melbourne heroics, it can be an easy win or else Australia can wrap the series up.

Match Up

Australian batting will be under focus as they look to get it past the sharp Indian bowling. The likes of Finch and Short haven’t yet contributed, which means the pressure will be on them to give a quick start.

India did most of the things right in Melbourne, and that’s not just with their bowling. Even their fielding looked sharp as they enjoyed the tacky conditions on offer.

Key players

Maxwell’s game was cut short by Pandya in Melbourne, but his ability to take it deep and let his big shots come into play will be an asset for Australia.
