Australia v Pakistan 3rd T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - Aussies to seal another series win?

An improved batting performance from Pakistan was not enough to prevent Australia from racing to a seven-wicket win and a 1-0 lead going into the series finale at Perth on Friday.

This will be the first-ever T20I to be played at the Perth Stadium, which has already hosted two ODIs and a Test. Interestingly, Australia have lost both the ODIs played here – but, is that enough to encourage Pakistan?

Australia

Australia continued from their domination of the first T20I to coast to a comfortable win in the second match. Steve Smith (80* off 51 balls, 11x4 1x6) showed that he’s cut out for any format, extending his run glut. In the end, the 151-run target set by Pakistan was a stroll in the park.

Although the series can still be drawn, Australia have decided to rest Pat Cummins for the third match. There is still enough in the squad to start the match on the front foot. With all things remaining the same, Australia will once again be favourites to end up as victors.

Pakistan

For a change, Pakistan batsmen stood up to be counted. Babar Azam (50* off 38) impressed once again, which has now become a norm from him. Iftikhar Ahmed (62* off 34) flexed his muscles in the slog overs to give the visitors a respectable score.

However, Pakistan’s bowling couldn’t live up to what their batsmen put up on the board. An insipid attack that had little incision was sorted out easily by Smith – although it was more a credit to the batsman. The concerns over the effectiveness of this attack still linger around, hanging like an albatross around the neck of Pakistan captain Azam.

Match Up

Australia showed that they have all the bases covered to be clinical in every department. Even without David Warner showing the same exquisite form that he displayed against Sri Lanka, the Aussies look a class above their visitors. Pakistan did improve in the second T20I, but the improvement is still far below what is required to threaten Australia. Expect another easy game for the hosts.

History & Statistics

  • Australia have won nine of their last 11 completed T20Is.
  • Australia haven't lost a completed home T20I to Pakistan, winning both T20Is played to date.
  • Seven of Australia's last ten completed home T20Is were won by the chasing side.
  • Pakistan have lost their last three bilateral T20I series.
  • Pakistan have lost their last five completed T20Is - their worst run since 2010 when they lost six in a row.
  • Seven of Pakistan's last nine completed T20Is were won by the team batting first.

Key Players

With all the focus around Warner and Smith, Australia’s captain Aaron Finch has almost gone under the radar. His runs haven’t been up to the scratch or to the level he usually promises. This could be his chance to lead from the front.

So much has been said about the calmness that Haris Sohail brings to this Pakistani top-order. The results, however, are not living up to the promise.  Last chance in the series for the stylish left-hander to deliver.
