Australia v Pakistan Cricket World Cup Tips, Predictions and Preview - Australia to bounce back

It promises to be an inspiring clash of the titans when Australia and Pakistan clash in the ICC World Cup 2019 at Taunton, with rain looming around as a threat.

The Aussies won their first two matches against Afghanistan and West Indies, but came short against India.

For Pakistan, it has been a roller-coaster ride so far. A heavy loss against West Indies was followed by a win over England. The abandoned match against Sri Lanka has slightly dampened the spirits of Pakistan camp, who now need a win to stay ahead of the chasing lot.

Australia

The defending Champions have won eight consecutive World Cup matches, before the loss to India halted their run. The team still remains far from being a shoo-in for the semis and the loss only accentuated their concerns.

David Warner’s slow-paced batting has pegged the side back, although Steve Smith’s form is a boon. The lack of strike rotation in the middle overs will be a well-discussed topic in the Australian camp. Thankfully, their bowling looks far more settled, although Nathan Coulter-Nile is yet to justify his place as a bowler.

Pakistan

Pakistan have been Pakistan this tournament so far – inconsistent and unpredictable. The win against England was expected to be a morale booster, but the washout against Sri Lanka has potentially deprived them of a win.

Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz remain the architects of Pakistan’s revival, while the top-order batting remains a big concern. If the likes of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman do not start contributing, Pakistan will have to keep hoping for miraculous escapes.

Match Up

Australia have won 14 of their last 15 matches against Pakistan. The last time the Asian side has defeated them was in January 2017 and they have lost their last eight matches against Australia.

The loss to India looks a blip, while Australia look to get back to shape against Pakistan. As long as the current form holds good, Australia should fancy their chances of continuing their recent strangle hold over Pakistan.

History & Statistics

  • Australia have won their last eight matches against Pakistan.
  • Four out of Australia’s last five losses in the World Cup have been to India and Pakistan (twice each).
  • In 19 of their last 20 World Cup matches that they fielded first, Australia have won.
  • Pakistan have lost three of their last four World Cup matches against Australia.
  • Pakistan haven’t defeated Australia at a neutral venue (not counting UAE) since the 2011 World Cup.

Key Players

Smith averages 55.66 against Pakistan and has five 50+ scores in just ten ODI knocks. With his form coming into this fixture extremely good, he could fancy getting another 50+ score.

Amir is swinging the ball back into the right handers and is bowling like a dream. Quick wickets at the top from the left-arm seamer could go a long way in pushing Australia to a corner.
