Big Bash League Preview and Predictions - Strikers and Scorchers to shine

Rashid Khan of the Strikers

The Big Bash League is back for BBL08 and the Adelaide Strikers will be the defending champions in the 2018/19 edition of the tournament.

The premier Australian domestic T20 competition is one of the most sought-after tournaments in world cricket - not just by the players, but by the cricket lovers too.
Starting on December 19, the Australian audience will be treated to BBL08. We look ahead to the action and some pointers to the season ahead.

Will Scorchers continue their consistency?

Death, taxes and Perth Scorchers in Big Bash – probably the only three constants. The Scorchers have reached the playoffs in each of the seven seasons until now. That includes winning three titles (2013/14, 2014/15 and 2016/17) and losing in the finals twice (2011/12 and 2012/13).

The biggest positive for the Scorchers is their ability to hold together the same team, year in year out. Losing Justin Langer to national duty is their biggest change. However, former captain Adam Voges steps into the role and there is a bit of continuity at that as well.

Can the Heat ignite the title fire?

Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Alex Ross & Matt Renshaw – easily one of the well-assembled sides of the season, Brisbane Heat have the talent to make a dash to the title.

The ‘Bash Brothers’ will be feared by the opposition bowlers, while the addition of Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a masterstroke. The Afghan mystery spinner has already created waves in the IPL and will be a strong addition.

Then there are some names that fly under the radar – Ross, Max Bryant and even Joe Burns. Even if Burns is called up for national duty, Heat have the advantage of being low on national Test stars.

Can the Strikers do the double?

The Champions of last season, the Adelaide Strikers have a very balanced outfit. In Rashid Khan and Colin Ingram, they have two of the best overseas players in their squad. Add the local players Alex Carey, Travis Head and Jake Weatherald – the Strikers will once again be a dreaded outfit.

Players like Matt Short, Peter Siddle and Ben Laughlin will add depth and strength, as the Champions look to make it a double.

Among the rest

Melbourne Renegades will look to make the most of what appears to be a strong side. The addition of seasoned all-rounder Dan Christian will surely help, as is the acquisition of talented all-rounder Will Sutherland.

Melbourne Stars also have some key acquisitions this year with the exciting Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamicchane and Dwayne Bravo from the Renegades making up a real combo.

Sydney Thunder will hope to keep riding on the heroics of Jos Buttler, Fawad Ahmed and Shane Watson. The Sixers have the latest Australian leg-spin sensation Lloyd Pope to go with their new acquisition Tom Curran and the return of Moises Henriques. Then of course is the surprise package of Hobar
Hurricanes, who will have the exciting combination of D’Arcy Short, Jofra Archer and Mathew Wade spurring them through the tough season.

Back Adelaide Strikers to reach the playoffs at $1.40 (BetEasy).

Back Rashid Khan to be the top Adelaide Strikers bowler at $2.10 (bet365).

Back Mujeeb Ur Rahman to be the top Brisbane Heat bowler $2.75 (Ladbrokes).
