Brisbane Heat v Melbourne Renegades BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Bash Brothers to continue form

Brendon McCullum

After picking up a facile win over Sydney Thunder, Brisbane Heat will hope to continue winning ways they return home to face Melbourne Renegades at The Gabba on Thursday in the Big Bash League.

The Heat (W2, L3) remain in the bottom-half of the table after the DLS win over the Thunder, but have won their last two and have matches in hand as they can make up ground. The Renegades (W3, L3) sit outside of the top-four on net run rate and will bid to get back to winning ways.

Brisbane Heat

The ‘Bash Brothers’ thundered the Heat to a good score in their last match, which is great news for Brisbane fans. Chris Lynn (233 runs, SR 132.38) and Brendon McCullum (86 runs, SR 132. 30) look much more dangerous than they were in the three defeats the Heat suffered at the start of the tournament.

Max Bryant (133 runs, SR 164.19) has looked in great touch this season with his aggression at the top. Mujeeb Ur Rahman (four wickets, ER 5.89) and James Pattinson (four wickets, ER 6.28) are proving their worth with the ball.

Melbourne Renegades

Aaron Finch returns to the Australian ODI side, which means the onus of batting once again falls on the all-rounders. Daniel Christian (125 runs @ SR 127.55) and Mohammad Nabi (125 runs @ SR 120.19) have looked in great touch so far.

Kane Richardson’s excellent season with the ball (11 wickets, ER 8.22) has been their cornerstone. Usman Khan Shinwari (ER 6.50) and Cameron Boyce (ER 6.20) have been frugal and set to lead their attack once again.

Match Up

Top-order aggression has always been the Heat’s strongest point. With McCullum also picking form, that looks to continue in this match. Mujeeb’s economical spells could be vital as well.

Melbourne have picked up a facile win in their last encounter, but the loss of Finch once again exposes their batting. They remain without an individual fifty this season and that could once again hamper their chances.

Key Battles

The ‘Baby Bash’ of the team, Bryant has been the surprise of the season for the Heat. His fearless striking could once again give them strong starts at the top.

He will be up against Richardson, who has been among the wickets consistently this season. The seamer could prove to the difference for the Renegades.

History & Statistics

  • Heat have lost seven of their nine matches against the Renegades.
  • Both of Heat wins over Renegades have come in January.
  • Heat have lost their last three at this venue, but have never lost four BBL matches in a row at the Gabba.
  • Renegades have won their last six matches against Heat.
  • Renegades have won all three matches at the Gabba.
  • Renegades have won all three matches they lost the toss against Heat.

Prediction

After stopping their seven-match losing run with two successive wins, the Heat will look to build up on their momentum. The Renegades started the season with two wins, but have lost their way with just one win in their next four. The Heat look set to beat their losing run against the Renegades with a win in this fixture.
