Brisbane Heat v Perth Scorchers BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Bottom sides facing elimination

Perth Scorchers and the Brisbane Heat

What was expected to be a top-of-the-table clash has now become a bottom-of-the-pile fixture when Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers fight at the Gabba on Friday.

This match will in all probability will have no bearing on the playoff scenarios. The Heat (W3, L7) and the Scorchers (W3, L8) have only the slimmest of hopes of upsetting the top-four chase.

Brisbane Heat

Only Chris Lynn (329 runs, SR 124.62) features in the top-15 batsmen of BBL08 at this stage, and tells the whole story for the Heat. Collective failures of the top-order and the inability to be consistent has worked against them this season.

Even with the ball, you have to go down below the top-15 list to find the first mention of a Heat bowler. That is poor returns to say the least, which is why Brisbane Heat have struggled. The only exception has to be Mujeeb Ur Rahman (ER 6.23), who is right up there with his economy rate.

Perth Scorchers

The less said about the Scorchers this season, the better. One of the most successful franchises in the history of BBL, they have struggled in all departments. Ashton Turner (307 runs, SR 128.99) is their only representative in the top-25 batsmen list.

Not just the lack of runs, the consistent batting collapses is a major worry for the Scorchers. Andrew Tye (14 wickets, ER 7.92) continues his love story with Big Bash wickets, but otherwise their bowling has struggled to win them close matches. Not the statement that you associate with the Scorchers, but they have struggled to compete in BBL08.

Match Up

It is a strange scenario for both the sides, considering there is very little they can achieve. Still, the bragging rights are on the line and it will be a test of Heat’s batting power against the traditionally superior bowling of the Scorchers. It must be noted, however, that both sides have been nowhere near their best in any department – which makes this match a clash of equals.

Key Battles

Lynn must be seething with anger at the poor displays and this is his best chance to give something back to the home faithful. With his hard-hitting, a big score is always around the corner.

There was a time early in the season when Turner was sparkling for the Scorchers and even earned a call-up to the national squad. That, actually, played against his form. Can he snatch it back?

History & Statistics

  • Heat have won three of their last four H2H matches, including the last two.
  • Neither Heat nor Scorchers have won three matches in a row against each other.
  • Heat have won just six of 16 home matches they started as outsiders.
  • The visiting team has won three of the last four H2H matches.
  • Scorchers have the worst powerplay average among all sides in BBL08.

Prediction

This could be an academic match that may not go beyond the ordinary. Last chance salon for the two sides to avoid the wooden spoon. With batsmen on both sides struggling, we may be set for a low-scorer.

Back the Heat to score the highest first 6 overs @ $1.85 (BetEasy).
