England v Bangladesh Cricket World Cup Tips, Predictions and Preview - Hosts to bounce back

Stung by a surprise loss to Pakistan in their previous round, England will look to bounce back when they take on a stubborn Bangladesh in Cardiff on Saturday.

England were comfortable winners by 104 runs against South Africa. However, they felt the going tough against Pakistan, losing out by 14 runs. Bangladesh surprised South Africa by 21 runs for a winning start to their campaign. However, they were agonisingly beaten to the post by New Zealand in two-wicket loss in their second match.

England

Despite the loss, there is nothing much to fret for England. Comfortably the hot favourites to win the title, England have got most of their bases covered. Joe Root’s consistency (158 runs, SR 96.93) is a huge positive, while Jos Buttler (121 runs, SR 131.52) remains the game changer.

Jofra Archer (three wickets, ER 6.23) has been exceptionally good so far, while the others have chipped around him. If the hosts play to their potential and stay in charge of key moments of the match, they should coast to a win.

Bangladesh

Not many would have given the Tigers a chance in their first two matches. However, talisman all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (139 runs, three wickets) has been at the forefront of surprising the opponents.

Lack of runs from Tamim Iqbal (40 runs, SR 59.70) is a worry for captain Mashrafe Mortaza. Another concern is his own bowling form (zero wickets, ER 7.36). For the Tigers to topple the hosts, all their senior players should respond with responsible knocks.

Match Up

England have nothing to panic, yet, as they look well balanced in all departments. The hosts need to manage their play against spin slightly better, considering the army of spinners at Bangladesh’s disposal.

Bangladesh will be eager to get back to winning ways after a narrow loss to New Zealand. Their batting didn’t click as a unit and that paved way to a below par score.

History & Statistics

  • England have lost just one of their last 17 ODI run chases at home.
  • Bangladesh have won just three of their last 14 ODIs against top-three teams (England, India & New Zealand) since the last World Cup.
  • Bangladesh defeated England in only four of their 20 ODIs, but all four wins have come in their last eight (W4, L4).
  • Four of the last seven chases in Cardiff have been won by the team batting second.

Key Players

Jos Buttler has four scores of 50+ in seven innings at Cardiff (Avg. 71.75, SR 130.08). He will once again hope to be the lynchpin of his side and stamp his authority.

Shakib Al Hasan has been the lead all-rounder for Bangladesh so far. His ability to dry runs and still pick up wickets, will be crucial for the side.

Tips

Back Shakib Al Hasan to pick over 1.5 wickets @ $2.75 (Ladbrokes).
