India v Australia 1st T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - India bid for another win of Aussies

Australia and India

It wasn’t long ago that India embarked on a tour down under that started with sharing the honours in T20Is and ended with a masterclass in the Tests and ODIs - and that rivalry is renewed on Sunday.

India came back home via New Zealand and are now looking to fine tune their ICC ODI World Cup preparations.

The two-match T20I series between India and Australia starts with the match this Sunday at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Australia are fresh from their participation in the Big Bash League 08 (BBL08), which could make things interesting.

India were unlucky not to have won the three-match T20I series down under, with the third match washed out. The return of regular captain Virat Kohli makes their batting even more formidable. Strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah returns too, after a long spell of rest out of the squad.

The hosts get ready to test some of their bench strength, as the composition of the World Cup squad comes into play. The likes of KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar and Umesh Yadav are still not sure of their place in the World Cup squad. This series is a nice opportunity for all of them.

Australia have had a mixed summer, where they were humbled by India, but rebound to defeat Sri Lanka in their next series. With the side still not settled in terms of the ODI selection, it is an open invitation for the Big Bash stars to stake their claim to ODI team.

Top among them would be D’Arcy Short, Kane Richardson and Glenn Maxwell. All three had successful outings in the Big Bash and are on the periphery of ODI selections. If this outlook of the players translates into performances, then Australia will do well to win this contest.

Match Up

The return of Kohli strengthens the already-strong Indian batting unit. This can be a test of how well the likes of Rahul and Rishabh Pant build on their potential.

Most of the Australian players are fresh from their exploits in Big Bash. Don’t be surprised if the likes of Short, Richardson and Maxwell get a chance to impress.

History & Statistics

India have won 11 of the 18 T20Is played against Australia, losing just six.
India have won 13 of their last 17 T20Is home and away, while winning their last seven home T20Is.
Australia have lost five of their last six T20Is and four of their last five T20Is away from home.
Australia have lost five of the eight T20Is they played in India.
However, they have won three of their last five T20Is played in India.

Key Players

Kohli enjoys playing against Australia and already has an average of 61 against them in 13 matches. Five of those have seen fifties for the Indian captain.
Maxwell has had a love-hate relationship with the Australian ODI team. To be true to him, Maxwell didn’t get a fixed slot to showcase his worth. It is time he makes the best of this situation.

It won’t be easy for India, although they start as heavy favourites. Australia have the right players in their mix, but how well they can perform collectively is a big question.

Back India to score the most 4s @ $1.82 (Unibet).

Back Australia to score the most 6s @ $2.10 (Neds).

Back Kohli to hit at least a six @ $2.10 (Ladbrokes).
