India v Australia 2nd ODI Tips, Predictions and Preview - India set for 2-0 series lead

India and Australia

A clinical chase gave India a six-wicket win in the first ODI in Hyderabad and as we move to the second ODI in Nagpur on Tuesday, all eyes will be on the team compositions once again.

Although the focus in the series has been on finalising the World Cup spots, both sides have a series to play and win.

India

Bowlers led by Mohammed Shami (2/44) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/46) restricted Australia to 236/7. Although he wasn’t among the wickets, Ravindra Jadeja’s spell (10-0-33-0) was as good as and more effective than any. It didn’t hurt India that Jasprit Bumrah had an off-day (10-0-60-2).

The chase could have been tricky with the top-three of the Indian batting not getting amongst the runs. However, Kedar Jadhav (81*) and MS Dhoni (59*) mastered the Aussie attack. India were able to coast to the target after some brief mid-innings concerns.

Australia

The Australian batsmen were guilty of throwing good starts away, as Usman Khawaja (50) and Glenn Maxwell (40) top-scored with the bat. Had it not been for the partnership between Alex Carey (36*) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (28*), things could have been even worse.

With the ball, Adam Zampa (2/49) and Coulter-Nile (2/46) proved effective. None of the other bowlers looked capable of taking wickets, although Pat Cummins (0/46) was unlucky to finish with no wickets.

Match Up

Kohli spoke about rotating his wrist spinners, which could mean a game for Yuzvendra Chahal. Also, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant might get a chance to impress at some point of the series. Even with all these changes, India look strong to continue their winning run.

Aaron Finch’s form at the top is a major concern for Australia, who continue to struggle during the middle overs. The way they tackle the Indian spinners could well determine their chances of picking up a win.

History & Statistics

  • India have won eight of their last ten ODIs against Australia (W8, L2).
  • At home, India have won seven of their last eight ODIs against Australia (W7, L1).
  • India have won only three of their five ODIs played at this venue, but all three have come against Australia.
  • Australia have lost their last seven ODIs away from home.
  • Australia have lost 18 of their last 19 ODIs away from home (W1, L18).

Key Players

Rohit Sharma has scores of 79 & 125 in the only two matches he played at this venue – both against Australia. Will the venue bring his scoring form back?
Zampa troubled the Indian batsmen in the first ODI with his skiddy leg-breaks and more importantly the googlies. Another good performance will cement his spot on the plane to the ODI World Cup.

Prediction

Australia did give a tough fight to India, but the hosts came out better at crucial junctures. Although there is enough talent in the Kangaroo camp to give another scare, India have the momentum to continue their winning run against the Australians.

Tips

Back India to win @ $1.44 (Sportsbet).

Back Australia to hit the most match sixes @ $2.30 (Neds).

Back Kedar Jadhav to pick up at least one wicket @ $2.37 (Ladbrokes).
