India v Australia 2nd T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - Can the Aussies seal series win?

India and Australia

A last-ball three-wicket win in the first T20I in Vishakhapatnam gave Australia a perfect start to their Indian trip and they now move to Bengaluru for the second and final T20I on Wednesday.

Both sides have their eyes set on experimenting, with an eye on the upcoming ODI World Cup. The result of this match may not be of greatest importance, but better balance makes the visitors feel slightly more confident of their chances.

India

KL Rahul’s knock at the top (50 off 36 balls) in the first match would have been a welcome sign for India. Virat Kohli (24 off 17) teased on his comeback, but overall it was their batting failure that pegged India down.

Had it not been for the bowlers, taking the chase of 127 to the final ball wouldn’t have been possible. Jasprit Bumrah (3/16) showed that he is head and shoulders above his peers when it comes to death bowling. The lack of an all-rounder meant that India were always behind the eight ball.

Australia

Australia had no such problems, at least with the ball. Nathan Coulter-Nile (3/26) was brilliant with his spell, while Pat Cummins (1/19) and Jason Benrendorff (1/16) stifled the runs. A small target meant the Kangaroos were always the front runners for the win.

Glenn Maxwell (56 off 43) and D’Arcy Short (37 off 37) took on the Indian bowlers, but what looked like an easy win got stretched to the last over. A calm knock from Cummins towards the end, in the company of Jhye Richardson took them over the line.

Match Up

India would be disappointed with their batting, which should find the conditions at this venue to their liking. However, as the hosts continue to experiment, the lack of a batting all-rounder could come back to bite them.

Although they were an unlikely winner in the first match, Australia have a lot to ponder too. The lack of runs from the top-order remains a worry.

History & Statistics

  • India have won 13 of their last 18 T20Is home and away, losing just one of their last eight home T20Is (W7, L1).
  • India have won their last two T20Is at this venue.
  • Australia have lost four of their last six T20Is away from home.
  • Australia have lost five of the nine T20Is they played in India.
  • However, they have won four of their last six T20Is played in India.

Key Players

Not yet redemption, but Rahul will take a lot of confidence from his performance in the first T20I. Coming to his hometown venue, he will look to improve on the form and make it another big score before the actual ODI tests begin.

Is this the last chance for Finch? Not a sure starter in the final XI yet, his form at the top is a personal concern. He will look to make it big and put all those worries to bed.

Prediction

Australia have the right balance to make another dash – thanks to the array of batting all-rounders they have at their disposal. India might experiment further without worrying about the series result, but should eye another fighting display.
