India v Bangladesh 1st Test Tips, Predictions and Preview - India bid to continue winning form

India

A first-ever test whitewash against South Africa puts India on the high pedestal ahead of their two-Test series against Bangladesh which starts in Indore from Thursday.

Virat Kohli’s men have already bagged 240 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) and are setting the pace. Bangladesh will start their WTC journey with this series, but can they stop India?

India

Rohit Sharma’s elevation as an opener worked wonders for India, with the stylish batsman scoring 529 runs against South Africa. There were runs for Mayank Agarwal (340 runs) and Virat Kohli (317 runs) as well, and India completely outplayed the Proteas.

What helped the Indians was their superior bowling performances. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin combined for 28 wickets, while Mohammad Shami sparkled with 13 wickets. Having had ample rest after the series and appearing fresh for this one, India should be confident of continuing their strong start to the WTC.

Bangladesh

The visitors did impress during the T20I series, but this will be a different kettle of fish. New captain Mominul Haque will be under pressure to make up for the absence of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. Additionally, the lack of bowling firepower puts them at a distinct disadvantage.

However, there is enough in the Bangladesh team to put up a good fight. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam had a great couple of years, while off-spinning all-rounder Mehidy Hasan will also be dangerous. Then there is Mushfiqur Rahim, who always enjoys playing against India. Having said that, the task ahead of them is very steep and the best Bangladesh can hope is to avoid a heavy defeat.

Match Up

India were ruthless against South Africa recently, and have also been in impressive all-round form otherwise. Virat Kohli’s side has made winning a habit and that is visible in their style of play. Expect the hosts to bring the same level of energy to the table for this fixture. Bangladesh will struggle to pick up 20 wickets, unless there is considerable help from the hosts. Overall, it is India’s match to lose and all signs point to an easy victory for them.

History & Statistics

  • India are unbeaten in their last 12 home Tests, including winning their last six.
  • India have won their last five Tests home and away.
  • India have never lost to Bangladesh in nine Tests (W7, D2), including winning the lone home Test.
  • Bangladesh have lost seven of their last ten Tests.
  • Bangladesh have lost 12 of their last 13 Tests away from home, including their last seven.

Key Players

Ravindra Jadeja has come of age in the recent year or so, with consistent performances. His returns from the South Africa series have been impressive enough to back him for another good outing.

Mushfiqur Rahim has 337 runs against India in just four Tests at an average of 56.16, his highest against any side. That includes two 100+ knocks.
