India v Bangladesh 2nd T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - India to level series

India struggled to get their act together in Delhi to go down 1-0 in the three-match series against Bangladesh and all eyes will be on how the hosts can revitalise their series in Rajkot for the second T20 on Thursday.

Rohit Sharma’s men got it wrong with the DRS decisions, fielding lapses and batting performances to lose the initiative.

Take nothing away from Bangladesh, though, as they got most things right. It will be interesting to see if Bangladesh can keep pressing on the front foot or if India get back to being their best.

India

It was a total failure by India in the first match, starting with a poor batting effort. Shikhar Dhawan (41 off 42 balls) did his best trying to hold the innings together. However, his poor strike rate meant that India were always behind the eight ball.

Even in the field, India spilled easy catches letting Bangladesh off the hook. Krunal Pandya and Ibrahim Khaleel will be under pressure after coming under the scanner in Delhi. Yuzvendra Chahal did try his best, but India were playing catch up.

Bangladesh

To Bangladesh’s credit, Mushfiqur Rahim (60* off 43 balls) kept his cool and composure to lead the chase. He took the game deep and that played to Bangladesh’s advantage. Rahim got enough support from Soumya Sarkar and in the end it was a perfect moment for Bangladesh.

Mahmudullah would be relieved to have won his second game as captain in six matches. However, Bangladesh will know that it was only because of India’s poor execution skills that they ended up on top.

Match Up

India’s perennial problem – losing track while batting first, continued to haunt them in the first T20I. However, as proclaimed by Rohit Sharma ahead of the series, they are likely to go the same route even if it is fraught with risk. Regardless, India will look to get back to their best. Bangladesh have nothing much to change from the first game, but it will be interesting to see if they can repeat the dose.

History & Statistics

  • India have won four of their last six completed T20Is.
  • India have won 12 out of 16 T20Is under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, but lost three of the last four.
  • Bangladesh have lost five of their six T20Is against India away from home (including neutral venues).
  • Bangladesh have lost five of their last eight T20Is away from home, including neutral venues.

Key Players

Shikhar Dhawan had to face the flak in the first match for his inept batting. Usually aggressive at the top, the southpaw will look to be back to what he does best.

Mushfiqur Rahim played his role to perfection in Delhi to underline his role as the senior-most batsman of the side. Bangladesh will once again look to him for anchoring the innings.
