India v South Africa 2nd T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - Rivals try again after washout

A wet Dharamasala ruined what could have been a perfect Sunday for the fans and India and South Africa now have just two T20Is to find out who will come out top.

Mohali will play host to the second match of the series on Wednesday, as both sides continue their ‘World Cup lookahead’. With no rain forecast for the day, we have an exciting match on our hands.

India

India’s search will be for greater firepower at the top and in the middle, as they continue to look for the right balance. Rohit Sharma, 84 runs away from being the leading T20I scorer against South Africa will hope to wheel away at the top. Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and the Pandya brothers give good ammunition for the side that has captain Virat Kohli leading the show.

The absence of lead bowlers does not hamper India’s bowling stocks, as Krunal, Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar look to add solidity. The Indians on the whole have a better experienced side than the visitors.

South Africa

The 26-year-old Quinton de Kock had to wait for his T20I captaincy debut because of the abandoned match. With the landmarks of 5,000 T20 runs (64 away) and 1,000 T20I runs (113 away) in sight, the explosive batsman will be leading Proteas’ charge. Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen expect to provide the soothing touch, as David Miller completes the middle-order options.

The excitement in the South African camp is around their bowlers, led by Kagiso Rabada. With 25 wickets in just 12 IPL 2019 matches, he has shown the heart and skills to win over the Indian pitches. Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi and Andile Phehlukwayo make the visitors an exciting T20I unit.

Match Up

The washout doesn’t change the scenario that India have a well-oiled and better experienced side than the visitors. Kohli’s men will also be confident after whitewashing West Indies recently in the Caribbean. However, there is enough firepower in the Proteas camp to upset the odds. This should be a great game of cricket, with the result powered by fine margins.

History & Statistics

  • India have won their last three T20Is and are unbeaten at this ground (W2).
  • India have lost four of their last six completed bilateral T20Is against South Africa.
  • Eight of the last 12 T20I results between these teams favoured the team batting first.
  • South Africa have won five of their last seven T20Is losing just once (W5, T1, L1).

Key Players

Krunal Pandya has slotted seamlessly into this Indian T20I side, with his all-round abilities. An ability to wield the willow hard at any point of the game makes him an interesting player for India’s middle-order.

David Miller has the experience of 70 T20Is for South Africa, with a robust SR of 140.32. With the side looking to revamp in search of a new identity, he could be the pivot for this inexperienced side.
