Melbourne Renegades v Brisbane Heat BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Harper to lead Renegades charge

Sam Harper of the Renegades

Melbourne Renegades will look to maintain their place in the top-half of the table when they clash with Brisbane Heat in Geelong on Sunday three days after winning the reverse fixture.

The Renegades (W4, L3) have impressed in patches, and remain in the top-half and in contention of playoff spots. For the Heat (W2, L4), this game represents a chance to get back to winning ways after losing to the Renegades the Gabba on Thursday.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades’ thirst for an individual fifty was quenched by Sam Harper (183 runs in BBL08, SR 142.96) in the last match as they made light work of Aaron Finch’s absence. The rest of the batting still seems a bit jittery, even as Tom Cooper (95 runs, SR 110.46) has shown a bit of form in the last match.

Kane Richardson (11 wickets) leads their bowling attack, but the variations of Usman Khan Shinwari (eight wickets, ER 6.14) and the guile of Cameron Boyce (seven wickets, ER 5.92) have been their success stories so far.

Brisbane Heat

The Heat stay in the bottom-half of the table, but will be thankful for the timely return to form for Brendon McCullum (136 runs, SR 121.42). Chris Lynn (247 runs, SR 129.31) remains their best bet with the bat and the ‘Bash Brothers’ will look to get in sync and get the season back on track.

It is their bowling where Heat have a problem, with only Mujeeb Ur Rahman (five wickets, ER 5.86) proving to be a tough nut. With all the other main bowlers conceding at least seven runs an over, Brisbane have a problem in being clinical on the field.

Match Up

The Renegades have been impressive in their last two matches and the return of Marcus Harris helps cope with Finch’s departure. Bowling gives the hosts an edge, and if they can keep the ‘Bash Brothers’ it could be all over for the Heat.

Which is where the Heat problems lie. They have been over-dependent on Lynn and McCullum, not to speak of their bowling inadequacies.

Key Battles

Harris lost no time in settling down in his role at the top of the order. Though he made just 28 runs in the lone match he played, there were glimpses of his hard-hitting skill that augur well for the Renegades.

After a lean start to the season, McCullum thundered to form with knocks of 56 & 50. Time to make it count and keep ticking the scoreboard.

History & Statistics

  • Renegades have won the last seven matches against the Heat.
  • Renegades have won four of the six H2H matches played in January.
  • Heat have lost eight of the ten matches against the Renegades.
  • Both of Heat’s wins against the Renegades have come in January.

Prediction

The Heat continue to be the most unpredictable side of the tournament. However, their over-reliance on a group of players make them vulnerable. The Renegades on the other hand will hope for batting solidity from Harris and Harper. This could be their chance to post a third win in a row.

Tips

Back Shinwari to be the top Renegades’ bowler @ $4.20 (Sportsbet).

Back Harper to score at least a six @ $2.25 (Ladbrokes).

Back McCullum to score a fifty @ $4.50 (Ladbrokes).
