Melbourne Renegades v Hobart Hurricanes BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Hurricanes bid for six in a row

Hobart Hurricanes

Action in the Big Bash League (BBL08) 2018/19 season is heating up Monday's game at Marvel Stadium sees the Melbourne Renegades (W2, L3) take on table-toppers Hobart Hurricanes (W5).

The Renegades have lost steam after starting the season with two wins, while the Hurricanes are setting the benchmark with five consecutive wins.

Interestingly, the Renegades have traditionally had the upper hand over the Hurricanes and the return of Renegades captain Aaron Finch gives a new dimension to this encounter.

Melbourne Renegades

Kane Richardson (eight wickets, ER 7.96) has been among wickets, but it is Cameron Boyce (five wickets, ER 6.05) and Usman Shinwari (four wickets, ER 6.60) who give them control. Bowling hasn’t been a problem for the Renegades, who continue to be bogged down with their batting.

The Renegades’ losing run coincided with their poor batting performances. They remain the only side without an individual fifty this season, while Dan Christian (100 runs, SR 117.64) tops their batting charts. Captain Cameron White’s poor season (60 runs, SR 85.71) is a true reflection of their struggles.

Hobart Hurricanes

D’Arcy Short (257 runs, SR 136.70) has been in scorching form this season, and his non-selection in the Australian ODI side gives Hurricanes an edge. With Matthew Wade (181 runs, SR 142.51) also firing at the top, Hobart have been running riot with their batting.

James Faulkner (ten wickets, ER 7.87) has been their best bowler, with Jofra Archer (seven wickets) continuing his wicket-taking returns. Short has impressed with the ball as well (four wickets, ER 7.15), adding real value to the side. The only worry at the moment is the lack of chances and runs from their middle-order batsmen, including Ben McDermott.

Match Up

It is an interesting match between one side that is struggling with the bat against another that is bossing with the bat. The Renegades will be desperate for their captain Finch to fire, which looks to be their only solution to the batting woes.

The Hurricanes are enjoying an all-round season so far, with Short the epicentre of their performances. Even Wade and George Bailey have chipped in, and the Hurricanes look well balanced to continue their winning momentum.

Key Battles

Finch didn’t have a Test season to boast about, but his return should boost the Renegades. With the ODIs not too far, he will try to make his short Melbourne stay count.

Short has been impressive with his all-round performances, giving the Hurricanes an edge. The Hobart opener looks set for another performance.
