New Zealand v Sri Lanka T20 Tips, Predictions and Preview - Can Sri Lanka sign off with a win?

Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga

Sri Lanka will play their last match of the disastrous New Zealand tour at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday in the only T20I.

Having lost the Tests 1-0 and the ODIs 3-0, this remains the Islanders’ only chance of getting something out of the trip.

New Zealand will have one eye on the upcoming white-ball trip of India and the ODI World Cup. With form on their side, it is safe to say that the Kiwis start as overwhelming favourites.

New Zealand

The ODIs were a cakewalk for the Kiwis, with Ross Taylor (281 runs, SR 102.93) and Henry Nicholls (171, SR 131.54) continuing their consistent form. Captain Kane Williamson takes a break, which gives Tim Southee a chance to captain the side in his second T20I game.

James Neesham (123 runs @ 219.64 SR, six wickets) will be missing the game due to an injury. However, the hosts welcome back their premier spin all-rounder Mitchell Santner after an injury lay-off.

Sri Lanka

There were very few positives for Sri Lanka in the ODIs, none more so than Thisara Perera (224 runs, SR 157.75). Even Kusal Perera (149 runs, SR 94.30) showed some glimpses, but the Lankans were always playing catch-up.

Lasith Malinga (seven wickets) had a successful ODI series as well, at least as a bowler, and will once again look to be among the wickets. The lack of bite with their bowling options will hamper the visitors once again.

Match Up

Even with a lot of changes to the squad, New Zealand look very strong with the bat and start as clear favourites. The bowling has a varied look to it and Southee is spoilt for options.

Not the case for Malinga, who will be scratching his head to find someone other than Thisara and himself perform for the side. The format does suit their flamboyant hitting, though, and Sri Lanka will hope to catch New Zealand napping.

History & Statistics

  • New Zealand have lost their last six T20Is and nine of their last ten.
  • New Zealand have lost five of their last six T20Is played at home.
  • New Zealand have won their last two T20Is against Sri Lanka.
  • Sri Lanka have lost their last three T20Is in New Zealand.
  • Sri Lanka have won just two of their last nine T20Is away from home, but both have come in their recent away matches.

Key Players

T20s is Colin Munro territory and the swashbuckler, who showed signs of picking form as the ODI series ended, will be looking to make it big.

Malinga will look to be a spanner in his works, though, as the wily Sri Lankan pacer gets set to prove his worth in the shortest format.

Prediction

The hosts have a clear edge. This match, regardless of the winner, should produce a lot of runs and many sixes.

Tips

Back the match to produce at least 15 sixes @ $1.83 (bet365).

Back Colin Munro to score at least two sixes @ $2.50 (Ladbrokes).

Back Lasith Malinga to be the top Sri Lanka bowler @ $3.60 (Neds).
