Pakistan v New Zealand 1st ODI Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Pakistan to continue winning ways

Pakistan and New Zealand

It was a chastening experience for New Zealand in the three-match T20I series, as they received their first-ever whitewash in this format and Pakistan will now look to carry that form into the ODIs.

The first of the three ODIs will be played in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. It will once again be a trial by spin for the visitors, as the Men in Green look to stamp their authority.

Pakistan Match Preview

Pakistan enjoyed batting supremacy in the T20I series as Mohammad Hafeez (132 runs) and Babar Azam (126 runs) continued their form from the Australian series.

The bowling was a team effort from Pakistan as left-arm spinner Imad Wasim and leg-spinner Shadab Khan picked up four wickets each. There are wickets for fast bowler Shaheeh Afridi and Hasan Ali too.

With the ODI squad fairly similar to their T20I squad, Pakistan will hope to put behind their ODI troubles in the Asia Cup. In that tournament played in UAE, Pakistan had lost three of the five ODIs including twice to India.

New Zealand Match Preview

New Zealand showed glimpses of their ability in the T20Is, but were not quite able to shore it up and pack the final punch. Only opener Colin Munro (104 runs) and captain Kane Williamson (108 runs) sparkled with the bat.

Bowling was a rueful effort, as only fast bowler Adam Milne (four) was among the wickets. The experienced Tim Southee flopped and as did their lead spinner Ish Sodhi.

New Zealand last played at home against Pakistan winning 5-0, but this will be a different set of conditions. Poor form from the T20Is could hamper their chances of starting on the right foot.

Match Up

Most of the Pakistani players are in form, which augurs well for the Men in Green. The opening combination of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq have been doing a fantastic job, as is their varied bowling attack.

New Zealand will have their task cut out and will look to Williamson and Ross Taylor to shore their batting. Southee and the returning Trent Boult will be expected to give some teeth with the ball.
