Pakistan v New Zealand 3rd ODI Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - All to play for in series finale

Pakistan and New Zealand

Pakistan managed to stop the 12-match winning streak of New Zealand against them in ODIs with a six-wicket win in the second ODI on Friday and it is all to play for in Sunday's series finale.

The complete contrast of their two performances so far, indicates how volatile Pakistan can be, in this format. With all to play for on Sunday in Dubai, the Kiwis will hope to keep up the good work and stay ahead of the hosts.

Pakistan Match Preview

Shaheen Afridi (4/38) was the star of the show for Pakistan as they restricted New Zealand to 209/9. Pakistan bowling was never a problem and the duo of Afridi and Hasan Ali (2/59) continued the good work to keep the Kiwis under check.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq received a scare when he was hit by a Lockie Ferguson bouncer, but otherwise the chase was an easy stroll for the Men in Green. Opener Fakhar Zaman (88) and Babar Azam (46) showed that their low scores in the first ODI were just an aberration.

The third ODI will depend a lot on how Pakistani batting will come out of the blocks. If Zaman and Azam fire once again, with Mohammad Hafeez for support it could be another easy win for the hosts.

New Zealand Match Preview

Another poor batting display cost the Kiwis on Friday, although Ross Taylor (86*) did his best to keep the innings going, to add to his 80 from the first ODI. The continued failure of captain Kane Williamson (27 & 1) is a worry for New Zealand, to go with the poor form of opener Colin Munro (29 & 13).

New Zealand needed quick wickets at the top to make the chase tougher, but they couldn’t get any. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi (1/21 & 1/54) isn’t having the same impact as his spin counterpart Shadab Khan, which is a worry in the bowling department.

For the Kiwis to have a shot at winning the series, they need more runs from their top-order.

Match Up

Pakistan will once again depend on their bowling formula of stifling the runs and bagging the wickets. The injury to Imam-ul-Haq couldn’t be serious enough to keep him out.

New Zealand need more from Munro and Williamson to make a match out of this.
