Pakistan v New Zealand 3rd T20 Tips, Predictions and Match Preview - Pakistan bid for whitewash

Pakistan and New Zealand

Pakistan overcame another spirited performance from New Zealand to close out the series with a six-wicket win on Friday. Can they claim a whitewash?

It is a record 11th T20I series win in a row under Sarfraz Ahmed, making Pakistan a very consistent side in this format.

The ICC number one ranked side will get a chance to register their second straight whitewash by picking up another win on Sunday.

Match Preview

Pakistan overcame a strong start for New Zealand by restricting them to 153/7. Young fast bowler Shaheen Shan Afridi once again impressed with his control (3/20) and took wickets at regular intervals. Although Hasan Ali had a night to forget (3-0-43-0), everyone else contributed with the ball.

The chase could have been tricky, but Babar Azam (40 off 41) had another good start at the top to give Pakistan headwind. Mohammad Hafeez took them past the line with 34* off 21 balls as the hosts eased to the victory in the final over.

Opener Colin Munro (44 off 28) was once again the star lead for the Kiwis with an aggressive innings. Captain Kane Williamson (37 off 34) wasn’t his usual flowing self, but all-rounder Corey Anderson (44 off 25) made sure that the score reached competitive proportions.

New Zealand needed quick wickets at the start to put Pakistan on the back foot, but there were none forthcoming as the visiting bowlers struggled with their control. Tim Southee (4-0-26-1) kept it tight, while Adam Milne (2.4-0-25-2) was among the wickets. It was too little too late and they were brushed aside in the final stages of the match.

Match Up

Pakistan look consistent and strong to put in another performance worthy of their top ranking. With Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez firing with the bat and the bowling steady as ever, Pakistan will look to make it count.

New Zealand have been competitive in both the matches, but have come up short. Batting hasn’t really clicked – apart from Munro – and with no strike bowler in their ranks, the Kiwis are set to struggle in their quest for a win.

History & Statistics

Key Players

Fakhar Zaman didn’t have a great start to the T20I series against Australia, before missing out the end of that series with an injury. After coming back with a breezy knock of 24, he will look to make it big in this match.

Munro looked the only player capable of taking the attack to the Pakistanis, although he failed to carry on. Can he get a big score under his belt and improve his side’s chances?
