Sydney Sixers v Adelaide Strikers BBL Tips, Predictions and Preview - Sixers to edge out playoff rivals

James Vince

It is a battle between two sides bidding for the playoffs when Sydney Sixers battle it out with the defending champions Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Ahead of Monday's BBL action, the Sixers (W6, L5) were in a pack of four sides separated by just one point and chasing three playoff spots. Just below them are the Strikers (W4, L6), who are trying to get back into contention with a win.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have stopped the Hurricanes’ juggernaut in their last match and are looking for three successive wins for the first time this season. The addition of James Vince (183 runs, SR 144.09) has given a strong look to their top-order, while Jordan Silk (260 runs, SR 119.81) remains their best batsman.

However, it is the Sixers’ bowling that leads the roost – Steve O’Keefe (16 wickets, ER 6.95), Sean Abbott (16 wickets, ER 8.29) and Tom Curran (15 wickets, ER 7.25) have been in excellent form throughout.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers have lost their last three matches and lost steam with their BBL08 campaign. Colin Ingram (301 runs, SR 144.01) has been doing the bulk of their scores while the rest, including Alex Carey (220 runs, SR 113.40) have struggled for consistency.

Rashid Khan (14 wickets, ER 5.62) remains their lone torchbearer, while the return of Peter Siddle (four wickets, ER 4.88) is great news. However, consistency remains the Strikers’ biggest enemy which may still be the case against the Sixers.

Match Up

The improving form of Vince and the consistency of the bowlers puts the Sixers in the driver seat. Though their top-order hitting remains a problem, the Sixers will bank their performances once again on their bowlers.

It is a tough call for the Strikers, who remain inconsistent like never. With Siddle back in the side, the Champions hope to recapture their best form.

Key Battles

After a slow start to his season, Vince picked up the pace with scores of 75 & 74* in his last two matches. His consistency could drive the Sixers forward in this match.

Whatever may be his ODI form, Siddle’s Big Bash form has been exceptional – even though he had a big gap between games. His economical spell could once again be at the forefront of Strikers’ play.

History & Statistics

  • The visiting team has won six of the nine matches between these sides.
  • Sixers have lost both the H2H matches played at the SCG.
  • Sixers have won four of the five H2H matches played in January.
  • Strikers have won three of the last four H2H matches.

Prediction

The last time these sides played this season, Sixers romped to a six-wicket win. Although the architect of that win Joe Denly is not in the side, the Sixers look strong enough to continue their winning momentum over the Strikers.

Tips

Back the Sixers to win @ $1.79 (Sportsbet).

Back Vince to score a six @ $2.50 (Ladbrokes).
