There is competitive racing at Albion Park, Melton and Menangle on the weekend and here are my best bets for Saturday night’s harness racing.

Race 7

January (2) finds a suitable race as she attempts to make it back-to-back victories after claiming a C4-C5 over the 2138m. She will be searching for the front off Sweet As Candy who doesn’t boast the greatest form. January could still sit parked or gain cover in the moving line and should be dangerous from any position in this field.

Race 2

Tasmanian pacer Offthetopofmyhead (5) should provide plenty of resistance for Star Of Memphis and Cruz. The market suggests a match-race but I don’t believe that is the case after Offthetopofmyhead finished third when making a three-wide move without cover during a 56.2 last half. The trio have very good career records and the Tasmanian cannot be underestimated from barrier five in this event.

The Group 2 Empire Stallions Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic Final (1720m) for the 2YO Fillies looks a very open race with the barrier draw making the race intriguing. It’s hard to go past the Emma Stewart stable. I thought Tiger Storm (10) was the better chance but Chris Alford has stuck with Beach Babe Nikky. Tiger Storm won her heat in 1:56.6 compared to Beach Babe Nikky’s 1:58.0 victory. She should track Izzy Jolie’s every move and that should give her strong claims.

Race 4

My Bettor Bella (2) and Uncle Peter will do battle in what should be a great race. The former continues to run well without winning but that could change on Saturday night as barrier two will see her in a strong position to strike. Uncle Peter won in 1:55.8 at Albion Park last time and looks the main danger.

Returning to NSW after a flying 1:52.0 Melton victory last time, High Rolling (9) has to be considered at double figures despite a poor draw. She can fly off the gate which Chris Geary may attempt to do despite gate speed inside and directly outside her. This is a class rise but the mare can run strong sectionals and she can go close to winning this Group 3 Adore Me Stakes (1609m).
