All Aged Stakes Tips - Pop the Champagne after Randwick Group 1

The final Group 1 race of the Sydney Autumn Carnival, the All Aged Stakes (1400m) looks extremely hard to predict, but I’m confident we’ve found some value with Champagne Cuddles.

She finished alongside Osborne Bulls and Pierata in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) last start, and while that pair are at odds of $3.20 and $5.50 respectively, Champagne Cuddles represents far better value at $16 and $4.40 Each-Way.

The Bjorn Baker-prepared daughter of Not A Single Doubt hasn’t set the world on fire this campaign, but she did defeat Cool Passion when second-up, and that galloper finished 2.5 lengths from Trapeze Artist in the Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Champagne Cuddles then finished 2.5 lengths from White Moss who won the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) last Saturday, and then she went to Flemington where she was only 3.5 lengths behind Sunlight in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

However, I think her best run this campaign was last start in the TJ Smith Stakes, and she now has a real sense of timing about her coming into Saturday’s event.

She settled worse than midfield and was essentially three wide without cover because Sunlight who was also three wide was some four lengths ahead of her.

Champagne Cuddles tracked Sunlight into the race and was ready to peel of her back in the straight when Santa Ana Lane came alongside her and pocketed her behind Sunlight which interrupted her momentum and surely cost her a length as she was bullied by the hulking sprint star.

Once clear again, she was a length and a half off Sunlight but then crossed the line with the filly.

She was also a length off Osborne Bulls and Pierata at the 300m mark, but crossed the line with them also after covering more ground and being interrupted in the straight.

In regards to class, originally, an naively, I thought this might be beyond her, but you look back through her form and are reminded of 2nd placings behind Alizee in the Tea Rose (1400m) and Flight Stakes (1600m), a 2nd to Trapeze Artist in the Golden Rose Stakes (1400mm) and a 3rd placing behind Santa Ana Lane in the Stradbroke Handicap (1350m), you soon get the feeling this mare has been forgotten about.

She doesn’t win out of turn and has only won twice in her last 12 starts, but she does seem to perform at her best over 1400m, and this is the first time this campaign we see her get out to that trip.

Charlie Appleby's D'bai scares me most and looms as a big danger, but as I said earlier, this is a tough race and at $16 and $4.40, Champagne Cuddles represents great value.
