All Aged Stakes final field and barrier draw - lucky 7 for Clearly Innocent

  • Middle barriers (6 to 8) have the highest success rate
  • Gate 7 very lucky indeed
Dissident wins the 2015 All Aged Stakes

When it comes to barriers draws there is an element of luck involved, and that appears even more so in the All Aged Stakes (1400m).

In the past 10 years, a staggering six winners have jumped from gate 7 making it a truly ‘lucky barrier.’

In 2018, the Kris Lees-trained Clearly Innocent has come up with barrier 7 but will need to lift on recent efforts having finished in 6th place in all three runs this campaign.

Dual Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist has drawn next door in barrier 8 and will be looking for consecutive victories following his impressive TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) win over Redzel.

Sydney’s leading trainer, Chris Waller, enjoyed a sting of success last Saturday taking out three of the four Group 1 races on offer, and he’ll be aiming to continue that trend on Saturday with Endless Drama, Tom Melbourne and Satono Rasen lining up.

Tom Melbourne and Endless Drama finished 5th and 9th respectively in the Doncaster Mile, and Japanese-import Satono Rasen is having his first Australian start for the new stable.

The powerful Darren Weir stable will be represented by Brave Smash who finished 6.7 lengths from Trapeze Artist in the TJ Smith Stakes, while Irish-import Red Cardinal is resuming from a spell and is likely to need longer.

James Cummings will also saddle up two runners in the $600,000 feature with It’s Somewhat first-up from a spell and Hartnell racing fresh over what has been a successful distance for him.
