Caulfield Guineas Final Field and Barrier Draw - The Autumn Sun draws barrier five

  • The Autumn Sun draws perfectly
The Autumn Sun looks hard to beat.

The Caulfield Guineas picture looks a lot clearer after the Golden Rose winner and hot favourite The Autumn Sun has drawn perfectly in barrier five for the $2 million feature.

The Autumn Sun is a dual Group One-winner and should be unbeaten, with four victories and a third from five career starts. The son of Redoute's Choice came from an impossible position to score a thrilling victory in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) and looks hard to beat.

Darren Weir has two runners in the race. Native Soldier bolted in the Guineas Prelude (1400m) a fortnight ago and drops 0.5kg. He has drawn nicely in barrier four. Leonardo Da Hinchi gave Brutal all he could handle in the listed Exford Plate (1400m) at Flemington before scoring an easy victory in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at The Valley. He draws barrier 10.

The James Cummings-trained Ranier had no luck at Flemington seven days ago and it is no surprise to see in backup. The Lonhro colt was a good thing beaten behind Wild Planet but does draw barrier 15.

The Kris Lees stable is flying and he has just one runner in the Caulfield Guineas. Gem Song looks a progressive galloper and was just nabbed by Mickey Blue Eyes last start. He drops 2.5kg on that effort and draws barrer 11.

The Tony McEvoy-trained Oohood is the only filly in the race. She broke her maiden in dramatic fashion last start, defeating Fiesta, Nakeeta Jane and Miss Fabulass in a thrilling edition of the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m). She has drawn barrier six and is likely to get back.
