Caulfield Guineas Odds 2018 - Brutal is a leading Caulfield Guineas contender

  • The Autumn Sun is an early favourite for the Caulfield Guineas
  • Brutal and Good 'n' Fast look like key chances
Brutal by name and by nature.

The Chris Waller-trained The Autumn Sun is an early favourite for plenty of the three-year-old Spring features and the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is no exception.

The 2018 Caulfield Guineas will take place at Caulfield on Saturday, October 13, with The Everest running in Sydney on the same day.

Those backing The Autumn Sun must be mindful that Chris Waller has stated the plan is, he is likely to progress to the Golden Rose before targeting either the Caulfield Guineas or Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The Hawkes-trained runner Brutal looks an imposing type and despite only winning an off-season two-year-old handicap, he looks a key runner for the Caulfield Guineas.

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes spoke after he won his debut by five-lengths, saying “"He's got a bit of ground to make up on a horse like (Golden Slipper winner) Estijaab, who's set the benchmark, but he's heading the right way."

The Lindsay Park colt Good ‘n’ Fast is aptly named. He has two wins and a second from three career starts and looks a terrific Spring prospect. Co-trainer David Hayes spoke after his last win over 1600m, saying "I think he's pretty classy - a Guineas type," Hayes said. "What I like about him is that he just does enough to win. He's in command of the race.

The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra duo have a smart youngster on their hands, by the name of Marcel From Madrid. The Sepoy gelding remained unbeaten in his two-year-old campaign, despite him still being immature.

He is still yet to be tried over further than 1200m, however, he if learns to relax and comes back a stronger horse, Marcel From Madrid will be a major player in the Caulfield Guineas.

Written By and Performer and well in the market for the Caulfield Guineas, however, the trainers of both horses (Chris Waller and Graham Begg) have said they are targeting the Coolmore Stud Stakes, so I run in the Caulfield Guineas is unlikely.
