Coolmore Classic Tips - $19 roughie can continue Group 1 Dream

  • $19 chance represents great each-way value in open race.
El Dorado Dreaming

Some strong form lines come together in Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1600m) at Rosehill Gardens, and there should be plenty of value on offer in such an open event.

Traditionally, the Millie Fox Stakes (1300m), the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) and Surround Stakes (1400m) have been the best guide to the Coolmore Classic, so it makes sense to focus in on these races and find the best performers that look best suited on Saturday.

I Am Serious finished runner-up to White Moss in the Millie Fox but was closing fast late and has more upside being second-up on Saturday – she’s my top pick from that race.

Alassio had the wood on Dixie Blossoms in the Guy Walter but had fitness on her side while Dixie Blossoms was first-up and open to more improvement.

Having said that, Alassio just keeps stepping up to the mark and James McDonald rode Dixie Blossoms and sticks with I Am Serious on Saturday.

The Surround Stakes runners include: El Dorado Dreaming (3rd), Mizzy (4th), Pohutukawa (5th), Fiesta (6th), and the form out of that race looks extremely strong with the winner, Nakeeta Jane, and runner-up, Fundamentalist, finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively behind The Autumn Sun in the Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Of that quartet, El Dorado Dreaming appeared to finish off strongest, but Pohutukawa was going stride for stride with her before running into a dead-end along the inside and being eased out of it.

I thought Pohutukawa was the run of the race in the Lightfingers Stakes (1200m) behind Nakeeta Jane also, and she does look suited stepping up to the mile.

Unfortunately, she’s fourth emergency and is unlikely to get a run – but if she does sneak in, have something on her.

El Dorado Dreaming won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce (1400m) at Randwick when third-up from a spell, and third-up last campaign, she was 3rd behind Mystic Journey and Fundamentalist in the Group 2 Aquis Farm Fillies Classic (1600m).

She comes into Saturday’s event third-up, and despite drawing wide, she’ll be looking to drop out and come with a big run in the straight.

She drops 2.5kg on that run and Brenton Avdulla will be looking to strike after a slow start to the autumn.

Moss Trip meets I Am Serious 3.5kg better at the weights and was only a length from that mare last start, and I can see this pair figuring in the finish.

A wide-open event with a dozen legitimate chances, but the form El Dorado Dream looks strongest, she’s ready to peak and represents great each-way value at $19 and $5.50.
